maybe the Salesmen drank a little to much Ethanol, maybe rock and rye, and it gave him a head ache.

What you said is right: use 93 top tier gas.

Octane is basically a knock resistance rating. Higher octane is not a gimmick, it actually prevents knock (pre detonation) in high compression / forced induction cars. If you put a lower octane fuel in your car, the ECU will have to retard timing to protect the engine, thus reducing torque. In extreme cases, putting a lower octane fuel than your car is rated for in it can actually damage the engine.

Where this guy probably got his idea from is that ethanol does have lower energy content than good old fashioned dinosaur juice, but modern ECUs have that factored in and simply inject more fuel to compensate (a good ECU uses lambda not AFR, since AFR changes with the ethanol content of the fuel; I don't know if Chevy uses lambda targets, but the European cars do). Ethanol also has a huge cooling effect in the cylinder on DI cars, which is why people tune for high E blends; you can run crazy timing and make lots more power because the cooling also prevents knock.

Short version - that salesman is wrong

This guy gave the best explanation.

We mist always remember that very unintelligent people are usually fully capable of speaking and rarely fail to display their ignorance.

We have 91 non oxy (no ethanol) as we call it. I’d at least run the minimum octane that the manufacturer recommends if you were to try it and not a random sales guy it sounds like you don’t even know that well.

Thank you

I really appreciate this forum and the willingness of you all to answer questions and also make me laugh! To be clear i wasn't thinking "Hell ya, that sounds like a great idea!" Actually my thoughts were...what is this dude talking about? If he's REALLY wrong than he is suggesting to his Cadillac customers to F-up their engines. They do sell LT4s in the CTS-Vs along with other V8s....He is adamant that Premium gas is a conspiracy. I wasn't nodding my head and agreeing with him...i was saying "really? Cause im certain the manuel says 93 oct top tier gas" This guy was smirking at me like i wasn't in on the secret😳. My first thought was...lets see what the forum says. Anyway thank you...part of me wants to contact Cadillac and let them know what this guy is telling people...he did give me his card if i needed anything...like a new engine i guess

he is an Idiot! Because yeah Gas is like Syrup!

Non Ethanol will get you better mileage but you still need to use the correct Octane for your car
