I don't believe this is possible. The steering shaft is keyed with the wheel. It will only go on in one position.

I'm wondering if the wheel itself may have had the key location in a slightly different orientation. If this is the case, you'll need an alignment and a calibration of the steering angle sensor.

This was one of the two possibilities I was trying to explain, you worded it much better.
