It would appear that way, especially from what I typed. The Z06 seems to hit every mark for me except price. But something keeps making me reconsider the ZL1 even with all that said.

The ZL1 since 2017 I may have seen about 2 of them...never seen a ZL1 1LE on the road though. Although I know there are 3 of them in Las Vegas (Instagram). I don't care much about the C7 prices tanking when the C8 comes out as I plan on keeping the car for a very long time. I'm actually not sure if the C7 prices will be affected much when the C8 arrives. But if they are and they do lower quite a bit that might make my decision easier. |

To everyone else who responded - thank you very much, I appreciate it. I don't want to quote every person and fill this thread with individual replies to everyone (and I'm not sure how to multi quote multiple people in the same post).
To clear some things up...I don't feel I fit the mold of a mid life crisis type and I honestly couldn't care less if people think Corvettes are for old men, as I'm not an old man. So that doesn't sway my decision. I'm in decent shape also so getting in and out of any cars wouldn't be a problem. As I said before I think I'm leaning towards the Z06, however, something keeps making me reconsider getting the ZL1 (has a lot to do with the cheaper price). I do live in Las Vegas, where it gets extremely hot, but I do not track my cars and this would be a street driven weekend toy only. I would get manual transmission whether I go with the ZL1 or Z06 and I would do light mods (would like to get the car to 700rwhp) and be done with it. |

Have you driven both? Drive them back to back and decide.

I had a 2016 C7 Z06 till early this year. It was tracked occasionally. Sold it for the ZLE. No regrets, only smiles. That being said, the ride quality is night and day on the street.
My spleens miss the Z06 for it's Mag ride. The spool valve shocks of the ZL1 1LE are only meant for the track and very smooth roads.

What everyone else said+
If you're going to get a Corvette, get it with Z07. If you're coming from a ZR1, I think you'll find the ZL1 comfortable and powerful, though maybe a bit heavier than you're used to.

Can't stand Corvettes. Test drove a C7 before getting my Camaro. Corvette had so much damn road noise. It was crazy. The 7spd felt too rubbery and 6th and 7th gear felt useless. Camaro had less road noise and way more comfortable. I only drive mine weekends really as I work from home but would take a ZL1 over a Z06 any day. I'm getting older and value comfort and the Camaro is pretty comfortable. I think the Z06 would feel like a punishment after a short drive.

I have an 18 ZL1. I love it in every way. I do miss my C6 Z06, and wish I still had it in ADDITION to my ZL1. Both awesome cars. If only 1 is an option, ZL1 is best. The C6 seemed just as fast, or close. I know you are talking C7, but that’s my only reference.

I'd take a Z06 over a ZL1 any day. Mainly because from certain angles the ZL1 looks like a plain ole V6 Camaro...thanks to the lack of proper badging. And in that respect, the ZL1 is still a Camaro. The Z06 is World's apart from the ZL1 in looks, prestige, respect, etc. It puts you on a higher playing field. While I do love my ZL1, it just isn't a Z06.
The plus side and what made the ZL1 a really good deal is the fact that it had the LT4, the A10 trans, and fully loaded was almost 50% less than a similarly optioned Z06. The deals and the prices were just too good to pass up. And that is how most of us ended up in a Z06 instead of a ZL1. You could get a fully loaded ZL1 cheaper than a base LZ1 Z06 or even a GS Vette. Much much cheaper. So if both cars are similarly optioned and the Z06 is only $13K more then I'd grab the Z06 for real!! |

Obviously looks will be subjective. I happen to think the Z06 looks fantastic from every angle. But the ZL1 looks meaner from the front. The ZL1 side angle is a bit bland for me. And both cars, could get mistaken for the base model versions by most people who aren't car people.
When I had my C6 ZR1 ($118,000 MSRP) I occasionally had people at work who would be like "oh my uncle/brother/dad....has that same exact car but in red!" I was like "really? A ZR1?" They were like "yea!" then they would show me a picture and I would realize it was a base model C6 and I couldn't help but to be a little bothered. But anyways, I'm leaning towards the Z06 now. But I definitely need to test drive both first. |
