Low coolant level will cause this too, even if it's not low enough to set off a warning light. I just had this as the issue on another GM vehicle and got a new water pump out of the deal, because that's where the leak was from. Thankfully, it was under warranty yet.

I would absolutely report this behavior to the dealer and have them investigate. |

I had this happen on one of my Chevy trucks. The heater blend air door motor was intermittent and sometimes would not close (or open) the door for hot air.

So basically, nothing came of it. They couldn't replicate the issue. Asked me to bring it back if it does it again. They did put it in the records and advised they would still cover it if it happens outside of the bumper to bumper coverage. Right now I'm just chalking it up to a glitch as its the first time its happened. If it happens again though I'm going to have to bring it back while the problem is occurring... and thats going to be a pita.
Honestly I've never had much luck with pushing the dealer to do anything to this car except for the A8 1st - 2nd shift issue which they did fix after I brought it back for this issue twice, and also the Bluetooth microphone and poor quality issue which took 3 visits before they took it seriously and that was only because I absolutely blew up on the service manager and failed their survey before they addressed it and fixed it. My local dealer is pretty much promising $10k off MSRP for a 2SS come March. Combined with my saved down payment I will come out with a better car with a lower car payment. I'm "thinking" of trading in my Z28 as well and consolidating to 1 car and save all the money I planned on for modding the Z28 and put it toward other areas of my life like student loans and getting another house but I haven't decided because I really like my Z28 and it's the last of it's kind with T-Tops but although I'm not making any payments on it, with maintanence, repairs and mods it's my most expensive car in the driveway and has almost no resell value. Consolidating to a 2SS would give me something satisfactory in power and I wouldn't have to worry about the Z28 anymore but I won't be touching / modding for a long time ... I really don't know though. It's been a decisions I've been fighting with for a long time but $10k off MSRP doesn't exactly happen every Tuesday.

Welp. It did it again and multiple times to.
Yesterday it was in the 40's -50's and it blew nothing but cold air for about 30 minutes of my drive (temp set to 80) and then it kind of straightened out and got hot then on my way home it got cold again and right before I could get it to the dealer it got hot again. Last night I went out and it just stayed Luke warm temp still at 80. I checked the coolant temperature (per digital cluster reading) and it fluctuates between 185 and 195. That sounds normal to me. Never went below 185 even when blowing cold. It's at the dealer again and they're going to drive it around to see if they can duplicate the issue. |

Okay guys, I'm really going to need help with this one. I'm very frustrated with this issue.
The dealer had the car for 2 days and stated in the end that its working as intended. What they are saying is that the climate control takes in consideration the temperature of ambient air outside and adjusted the heat level blowing out the vents according to that temperature. I know that is normal if its set to AUTO, HOWEVER Auto is NOT set and I ALWAYS remember it blowing straight hot air if I had it set to 80 or higher. Right now while its set to 80 it is blowing literally outside air and its in the high 50's low 60's outside (I have it set to 80 because Im testing it.) Thing is, it was also blowing straight outside air when it was 35 - 40 degrees outside last week as well and the dealer isn't owning up to it and I KNOW for fact that this car has blown plainly HOT air when set to 80 or higher even in the summer time or when it was decently warm outside. Does this sound like its operating as intended... and can someone do an experiment for me, when its atleast 50 degrees outside, turn the heater blower to 80 and the fans up, feel the air coming out the vent and tell me if it feels like the car is heating the air or if its straight outside air? What should I do if there IS a problem and the dealer is refusing to own up to it? I'm getting very irritated. |

68 here in Georgia. Set to manual. Fans high. Temp set to high. Set to outside air. Blistering heat coming out of the vents.

Edit: oh, also try it right at 80 instead of High and tell me what it gives you if you can. |

The easiest way to prove that to the dealer may be to have them demonstrate the behavior on new camaros sitting on their lot. You can get a car to blow 80 degree air when it is 70 out. The cars on their lot should do that. How the auto climate works may be outlined in detail in the service manual. The amount of detail for some of these descriptions may be overwhelming assuming it is there. I have not seen the digital service manual the dealers access. |
