Does this mean some dealers don't care and/or GM's checking of your blood or familial lineage is suspect anyway? I mean what do they do require marriage licenses and birth certificates?
It is usually the "honor" system...... The "sponsor" has to get the auth#.... if the guidelines are not met, and GM audits the request and finds foul play, the sponsor loses their ability to obtain any more auth#'s for themself or anybody else for the period of 5 years I believe....

I don't think so. I recently retired from GM and have provided dozens (hundreds, maybe) of Employee Discounts and Friends & Suppliers Discounts over the years. The program has changed a lot over the years, but I'd say within the past 5 years, EVERY TIME I have used a discount myself or someone has used one that I extended to them, I got a letter in the mail saying that it had been used and asking if I needed to contest the use. It didn't ask for confirmation, but suggested that if I was not aware of the use, I should call the number in the letter.

Discount for friends is to anyone. Employee price is to the family listed in a prior post. I have never been audited, but know several who have. It gets almost IRS like if they audit you.... you have to provide birth certificates, marriage licenses..... so if nothing looks out of the norm on employee discounts, you should be fine.

Well, mostly. There is an asterisk involved here, but most dealers know how to get around it. When an employee or retiree pulls a certificate number, the "guidelines" for Supplier and Friends is that it is intended to be for conquest reasons. This means, you are giving it to a friend who has a competitor vehicle or is considering purchase of a competitor vehicle. Part A is easy to prove, Part B, not so much. But since GM is interested in moving iron, the Discount for Friends is rarely challenged, EXCEPT as I mentioned in my earlier post, where the employee who the discount belongs to is asked if they actually extended the discount. Family Discounts are audited more than ever, now that it is opened up to nieces, and nephews. Everyone has "nephews" that really aren't.

For employee pricing, I believe misuse suspends use of the privilege for two years.

Years ago when I was GMS eligible I was told every GMS sale is audited. Since it has been more than five years since I as eligible, auditing may be random these days.

Eligibility for GMS pricing rules have changed over the years, not only adding relatives such as aunts/uncles and nieces/nephews but also adding vehicles an individual employee may purchase using GMS pricing. In all the years I was married, my then wife's father was not eligible to buy a Corvette using GMS. Camaros yes, Corvettes no.

From the website....

This program is subject to audit and verification, and misuse will result in sanctions against the GM employee. Violations of the program rules and guidelines by any purchaser may result in sanctions against the eligible participant. Sanctions may include, but are not limited to, the loss of privileges, repayment of monies and/or employment action, up to and including the termination of employment. In addition, legal action may result from violation of program rules.

Good Info

I know when even at the dealership you have forums to fill out to confirm information around the GMS number so it is on the up and up. Also it restricts the dealer on the amount of doc fees to 75.00 which is nice
