Well, you gotta pay to play, but I'll say this.... If you were on the fence about M6 vs Auto, this may have pushed you all the way over to the manual. If my wife was game that's what I'd be getting.

If you think about it, it does make sense...

Manual Z06 = no tax (baseline)

A8 Z06 = $1300 (+1300)

Manual ZL1 = $1300 (baseline)

A10 ZL1 = $2100 (+800)

You can see by the reduced tax premium that the A10 seems to be slightly more efficient than the A8, all else being equal.

It's not up the manufacturer...they'd happily sell you the car with no GG tax...

The GG is a tax...... not included in the MSRP......
The copy of the workbench order sheet i signed had the GG (code R8E) tax included as part of the msrp as well as the invoice amount

exact words were, "sign next to the msrp amount to signify that you agree to that final price."

I did have him make a note to confirm that was the GG tax as the line item was listed as processing option.

GG tax is part of the MSRP, or listed as an "option"...either way, yes: you pay tax on a tax when all is said and done.

kind of sad that with 10 speeds they couldn't get the fuel mileage to be decent. What do they need gears 9-10 for? wtf.

That's what I am worried about with a car that has 650 hp.

I can sense your sarcasm, BUT -

GM wasted a bagillion dollars in R&D if they weren't after fuel economy. A 7spd dual clutch tranny would be just as much performance.

I'm sure there are a good chunk of people at GM disappointed.

Proof that you can't have your cake and eat it too.

If the gas economy sucks, then there's very little point to having so many gears. Going back to your point, a car with 650hp/tq doesn't need 10 spds to be fast.

Guess that's why there's been no mention of an eco mode. All I've heard about the auto's efficiency is that it will supposedly skip gears when cruising and something about the clutches. Other than having to pay a rediculous tax, I'm fine with that. I'd rather the car perform than get 30mpg, even though that would've been nice too.
My Silverado has AFM but the only time it's on 4 cylinders is when it's on dead flat road or going down hill. I'm dubious about any true fuel savings.

It is a performance car and they tuned the tranny for performance not gas mileage. What is more impressive 25mpg or 7:29 at the ring?

Yes getting the feeling the A10 hype train is slowing down to reality. I thougt 8/9/10 were all economy gears...The M6 was confirmed to have 4 power gears and 2 economy right? unlike the 5 that was originally thought. Can't blame people for believing the A10 wold trump the M6 in MPG. Maybe in a few years once they revise the A10 a little bit more?

Do you think 7:29 at the ring maybe be possible with the M6 too if they put in similar effort as they did with the A10? They most likely dedicated way more track time to their new A10 to eek out as much as they can.

Uh, realistically, 25 mpg. I'll never go to the ring but i'll always drive on the highway.

Like i said, if they weren't doing the A10 so they could have performance and gas mileage, they wasted a lot, A LOT, of R&D money. There are already very VERY good performance transmissions available.

This is a performance car. The tranny is most likely capable of great gas mileage for trucks and other cars if that is the application. I would be pissed if they sacrificed performance for gas mileage. Buy a Volt.

They just may have. If they are using a tranny they designed for gas mileage on trucks, vs a transmission designed for max performance, it means they probably left something on the table compared to a good dual clutch. dang.

I don't care about the gas mileage & not why I'm getting this car...I really don't even care about GG Tax, even though it's double taxation. It's not a deal killer, just insulting.

I just find it hard to believe it is not equal or better than the M6...I think someone had a heavy foot on the A10 during this whole official gas mileage testing. I'm betting real world it will be the same or just a tad better than the M6.
