Nothing, I casted my vote for Max360 after I chided the OP for creating yet another thread about radar detectors.

Didn't want to hijack a thread, or start yet another one, but does anyone have comments on these guys?

http://www.costco.com/Beltronics-Pro...100055797.html or

Without much research, I'm too cheap to drop over $500 for the V1 or Max, and I'm getting my new 2SS vert next week, but I have a feeling it could pay me back many times over if they work well. Does cheap usually equal false warnings, failure to detect, or both? (false warnings would probably work to slow me down anyway. lol)

I would go to rdforum.org and talk to those guys there. They helped me choose and I ended up getting a Valentine One which is totally worth the 400 bucks. Every ticket you get is gonna add up to about that much in total costs (insurance, lawyer, court fees, ticket, etc.) and I've been saved more than enough to pay for the detector.

I understand it may not be in your budget but buying a detector under 300-350 is a waste of money because eventually you'll be buying a more expensive one because your current one doesn't do well. If I were you I'd just save up to about that range then start looking for what's good where you drive.

Good advice. Don't buy a cheap one; they will fail to warn you or they will be hysterical with constant garbage warnings.

I have been running various detectors on a variety of cars and motorcycles since 1986. I am a Valentine 1 guy. That is what I would buy if I were buying one today. However, the newest Escorts look good. I think they need more of a track record before I would buy one, but that's just me.

I've been using the Escort 9500ix and it is more than adequate. I don't see the need to spend twice as much on the 360MAX.

The detection in front and in the rear is excellent. In the last few days I've been alerted to a state trooper with Ka band who was behind me by at least a quarter mile. I've also had Ka band directed in front of me, and the 9500ix was still picking it up when I was 200 meters past the source of the radar which was pointing in the opposite direction.

If there are any other benefits to the 360MAX I'd be interested to see them. For my purposes the 9500ix has been plenty useful. I bought the amazingly overpriced blend mount as well and still came in for less than the 360MAX.

I find it amusing that these devices using decades old technology are still so insanely priced. They are making silly cell phone apps to try to remain relevant and add perceived value to the product.

*edit* The $2,000 Passport 9500ci has a "high resolution" dot matrix display.

Not if you're doing speeds that would qualify for being taken to jail and the LSP's jam the laser and give you time to slow down. Not to mention points on your license causing rates to go up over time. You're also paying for a stealth install and best performance. I agree it is on the pricey end, but after owning one there is a reason its more expensive.

It can also be had for 40% cheaper than Escorts websites advertise it for. Basically they sell it wholesale to other vendors who then sell it for $800 cheaper. Then Escort turns around and puts that vendor on the UNAUTHORIZED vendor list which means that Escort will not warranty the product. But the vendor does the warranty instead. All of the other apps and downloads and stuff still works just fine with Escort. Kind of a bizarre business practice if you ask me

Wow, I had no idea Escort was selling a TWO THOUSAND DOLLAR unit! I like the laster jamm.... er... "shifter". You can get laser "shifters" elsewhere for a lot less, that at least one of the car magazines tested and found to work. Can't recall who makes them, though.

In my state, if you get a ticket, the points on your license can cause your insurance to cost more for SIX YEARS. So, it isn't just the cost of the speeding ticket to consider.

My V-1 has paid for itself over and over and over.

I have a Passport 8500i, but the latest round of cars using K-band emitters (GM cars, Acuras, a few other brands) are causing a lot of falses. Once it becomes unbearable/unusable I'll do a bunch of research into the brand that handles that the best.
