Modern cars are not like cars from even 20 years ago. Before the first sheet of metal is stamped for even a pre-production IVER, all aspects of the car are designed on high powered computers using the latest CAD software. There is a lot of simulation that the engineers can now run things through at their desk that just wasn't possible for them to do in the past, and had to instead be run through the first year buyers who really were the beta testers - or guinea pigs lol.

The "kinks" we used to have with first year designs are ironed out before the car even begins production.

Seriously??? There ARE issues with the 1st run. Your statement makes no sense

If the first of the 6th gens are so great, why are so many of them getting ping ponged around south eastern Michigan to at least 3 different repair facilities?
Why are there at least 3 early orderers that haven't received their cars when they were built the week of 10/12/15?

The folks that want to wait are smart.
I think GM either hired a whole bunch of inexperienced people at LGR (they were training people with wooden blocks) or brought in furloughed GM employees from different manufacturing facilities, none of which were car assembly.

I would wait until year 3 or 4.

lately i have been noticing GM is all ears when a new model is launched. they seem to not waste any time to fix any issues that pop up when the first cars are delivered.
when purchasing a 2014 silverado, that was a first year car. That one was built 6 months after production and had many/most fixes/updates by then.

the only issue that wasn't fixed by then was a leaky power rear window. got a truck that had the solid rear window.

so far so good. over 60,000 miles on the clock.

if quality is a priority, waiting for a model year to correct issues is not an option anymore. that thinking is what got automakers into trouble.

but we might get a price increase when the 2017 can be ordered. Corvette went up a few thousand from 1st release of 2014 to ordering date on 2015.

Order your Camaro whenever you want. The 2017s will be the same.
Well, next year is the 50th anniversary, so I think it's unlikely that there won't be ANY changes as far as options go. Many are speculating something like hugger orange to come back for the 50th anniversary. Personally I'm hoping they release 2 new colors for MY17.

Some still waiting on possible package options aside from 50th anniversary as well (1LE, etc.)

I would really love to see a suede interior package option come out for MY17 but I'm sure that would only be a 1LE or higher option. You never know though. There are plenty of good reasons to wait of you aren't in a hurry.

Pretty much anything that can be found & fixed in time for the 2017s to start rolling down the line is going to be covered under warranty. On the flip side, anything that will show up after the warranty expires obviously isn't going to be found for quite a while and so GM can't have a fix ready 6 months from now.

Plus, automakers don't simply wait for model year changeover to make tweaks to the cars. The Camaros built this week aren't exactly the same as the ones built in October, and won't be exactly the same as the ones built in May.
The problems I'm concerned about are related to MyLink and the implementation of carplay. Having be victimized by Chevy with their implementation of MyLink in my 2013 by poor design they never fixed, even though it would be a software fix, I would want to know the 2016 version doesn't have similar oversights. I agree there probably won't be any mechanical changes. Find a 2016 with all the equipment you want and give it a complete test drive and check EVERY feature you think you may use.

Hmm I was gonna talk to my dealer tomorrow about placing an order but if the 2017 will be able to be ordered 3/31 I might wait.

I just want to make sure Hyper Blue is still around and I would love to have it delivered before I have to put it away for the winter so I could actually enjoy it. Tough decisions.
