The smell of a SUV in the garage of the morgue that had a body still in it after 8 days w/ brain splatter all over the interior. Won't forget that one anytime soon.

.....and what do you do for a living out of curiosity? I only ask because the first thing I jumped to was you coming home after a two week vacation to find that in your car. Did someone not pay their protection insurance that month?

Decomp body that had become one with the floor. Guy had been dead about 3 weeks. You could "taste" the odor in your mouth. He was in an upstairs bedroom and you could smell it from the front yard as we approached.

My grandfather put his lacquered multiple section fly rod into a silken sack then sealed it in an airtight aluminum cylinder. Thirty years later, I came across it and opened it, holy shit, what a super foul odor. Since I was ten years old, I thought it would be funny to take the silken sack and insert it into my younger sister's pillow. She cried for nasal relief; I laughed.
The next night, while I slept, she pre-heated an electric light in her bedside lamp, then she pressed that hot bulb against my sleeping face until I woke screaming. Sibling rivalry has got nothing on sibling revenge.

To me, the word "odor" has negative implications. Aroma, scent, or fragrance are more positive words...
That said, a scent today brought back some positive memories. The scent of slightly burned wood, like when you first cut with a power saw. I smelled that in a construction area where I work (some remodeling going on). It took me back to my childhood... Remember those art/craft kits with the balsa wood with a design drawn on it, that you would burn the design into the wood? I don't even know if they make those anymore, but I remember making one with a puppy on it when I was about 5 years old....

The aroma of sauteeing onions and celery, sage and seasoned stuffing takes me back to my Mom's kitchen every Thanksgiving Day when she started cooking at 6AM for dinner later in the day.

RIP C.A.R. November 1925 - March 1983

I miss you Mom.

We used to stand in the exhaust outlet of our jet engine powered generator sets when it got really cold outside. That smell brings me back to cold nights of refueling airplanes everytime.
