Trading in a 2011 Chevrolet Malibu LT with 42k miles & an outstanding balance of $7k. I can easily get $10k-$11k for her. She's the first new car I bought & if I bring her back to the original dealership of purchase, I have a voucher for an extra $500 on top of the max offer.

Do dealerships check the GM history? I've had many repairs/visits due to various dealers inexperience with the tops. I shouldn't suffer because the dealers can't fix problems the right way. Mines a 2012 w/ 86k miles. KBB says about$13,500. Hopefully the repair history won't go against me.

My experience is always better selling it private. I had bought a brand new 2013 civic 4Dr for OTD $17000 from the dealership, used it for about year and a half, had 18k miles and I just sold it 1 month ago for $15000 to buy the new camaro. So I feel like I didn't really lose money on it. Dealers around me made me offers for trade ins of around $10,000-11,000.

Yeah here in NY, I'll get a tax break by trading in. I've tried to sell mine locally but no one is jumping on it so I'll end up trading it

The dealer offered me $21,000 for trade in of my 2010 Camaro 2SS/RS with under 23,000 miles. I probably can do better selling privately making maybe $1,000 after considering the savings on the sales tax with the trade in and then I think about dealing with the sale and paperwork. In the end I decide to trade in for convenience.

There are a few dealers around town that will give cash offers for late model used vehicles.

I plan to take my '14 2SS/RS w/ Sunroof, Nav, NPP, LPO lighting to each and every one of them, and take those offers to the dealer when I do the paperwork for '16.

And afterwards, whatever makes for the best deal is what I will choose.

I'm currently trying to sell my car privately but am thinking I'll probably part it out and trade it in for the tax benefits.

I would happily sell my 2012 2SS/RS 45th Anniversary Edition if someone made me a fair offer. It would certainly sell for less than a dealer would charge for it as a used car. Otherwise I will be trading it in and ordering for an April delivery.

It is extremely rare for dealerships to give you anything fair on a trade in. Nothing personal, it's pure business. They only accept trade in's on their terms, aka being able to flip for profit.

My suggestion is to flat out sell it by owner. Pay the 150 bucks for autotrader, free ad for craigslist, spread the word, etc. Instead of trading in my 2014 evo gsr, i sold it privately and got 6 grand more than I would've trading (modified evo, 408 whp on 91 octane).

Also, keep in mind that check with your State AND county. While I currently live in Wichita, i used to live in Arkansas. In AR, you have 60 days AFTER selling your current vehicle to purchase a new/used vehicle after and STILL get a tax break. You just need to provide your own bill of sale.

In FL, it trade in and sale have to happen in the same transaction, or you don't get the tax break.

What I don't like is according to KBB a Camaro's value is the same no matter if it is a 1LT or a 2LT. At least for my 2014.

You'd think a 2LT would be worth a little more.
