I absolutely love my 1LE. I have to admit though, it’s looks is what really drew me in. The power and handling are incredible and the car is amazing to drive. I was looking at a Z06 or a Viper. I have owned both...but I was leaning toward the Viper because I see so many Z06”s. Then I drove the ZLE, it’s looks, power and handling reminded more of the Viper, it’s raw and mean, yet it’s refined and easy to drive. Another cool fact, I go to many Cars and Coffee events and there are times where there are 300 or more cars, yet I’m the only one with a ZLE!

Zl1 with the A10 is amazing. Super comfortable for a sports car. I drove it 800 miles round trip with no comfort issues. Speed in great and I love the styling. There are more ZO6s where I live than ZL1 by 5:1. The only vette I have eyes on are the C8s but I’m waiting for the zo6 version.
For me right now it’s ZL1 all day! |

I test drove a Z06 yesterday and there is definitely a difference between the two cars. I would say look for a 17 and up tho. But if you find a great deal on a 15-16 then go for it. A 16 should be at the same price as a 17 ZL1 and if both are used then the Vette is a no brainer. Especially if it has low miles. Most likely the ZL1 will have been beaten on while the Z06 will have been granny driven.

The best thing about a ZL1 1le is its runs cooler, has more room in it, and stands out more then a Z06 or a C7 or C6 ZR1. And most people ask what is it ! But they really love it ! |

If it's a weekend driver either will be pleasing
If it's drag racing then the zo6 will be much more realistic. |

Have owned both a C7Z and now a ZLE, I prefer the looks and edge in performance to the C7Z, but I prefer the interior and at least where I am located a little more rarity to the ZLE. Take this with a grain of salt but the only reason I got rid of my C7Z is because GM did a buy back or they were going to have to lemon the vehicle. both were bought brand new 0 miles.

I owned a C7 Z06 for 3 years before I moved to the ZL1 (In my case - ZL1 1LE).
The C7 chassis does not work well with the LT4 and LT5 motors as it overwhelms the chassis. Forget using 2nd gear without fear as you never ever trust the rear end. My car was completely stock and it never gave me the confidence on tight twisty roads or on track as much as the Alpha chassis ZL1. If you truly want a Z06 for all the 'track prowess' that you expect - get the ZL1 1LE. The ZL1 1LE is a track day car and I mean it. Raw, Stiff and purpose built with a modicum of conveniences for the driver. Get the ZL1 (Non 1LE) if you want the benefits of Mag ride. Feel free to reach out to me if you have additional questions.

I've owned ZLE and Z06 w/Z07.
I've driven ZL1 and Z06 (non Z07). If you want a good handling car, don't buy the Z06 without the Z07 package. It's a floaty mess of a car in my opinion especially after 10k miles. The Z06 w/ Z07 feels pretty good and is the best all-arounder if you don't need 4 seats. The ZL1 1LE is the best handling but not everyone likes it as a daily driver (I daily drive mine). The ZL1 is the best all-arounder if you need 4 seats. Thats my breakdown. However, my favorite 2 seater on and off track: C7 Grand Sport M7 with Z07

Having owned multiple Corvettes and now my SS 1LE, Corvettes in general have AMAZING turn-in and front end bite, but fall apart in the rear when close to the limits. The Alpha chassis in the Camaro is far superior when you are talking about composure, stability, and building driver confidence over the C6 and C7 chassis.

I traded my 2016 2LZ A8 Z06 fully loaded with a sticker of $99950 for a 2018 A10 ZL1 fully loaded with a sticker of $69850 in June 2018. The Z06 was my 4th Corvette. The following are my opinions and mine only...
Interior-I am 604/235 with an athletic build, I am not fat nor am I Arrrrnold. I have considerable more room in the ZL1 than I did in the Z06. I have a solid 6 inches more leg room and I have to move the seat forward a little to be comfortable. Head room is about the same but I have a sunroof, without if might be a little better. The Recaro seats fit me much better than the Comp seats in the Vet. They have better side support without being too tight. The only negative to the seats are no lumbar adjustment. The rest of the interior is really nice with a combo of leather and alcantara, however, side by side the Vet has the nicer interior. The back seats are useless for anything other than a very small child or purse or gym bag. I do really like having a real trunk. Powertrain-The A10 is hands down better than the A8. The extra gears keep you in the power band better. The manual shifting is faster and crisper. The transmission is more smooth than the A8. I was skeptical before the test drive, but the A10 is a better unit. The engine is exactly the same and feels exactly as it does in the Vet. Suspension-It is the same magnetic ride as in the Vet. Due to the increased weight and height, the ZL1 doesn't corner quite as sharply as the Vet, but makes up for it in ride and noise. It is considerably quieter in the interior than the Vet and the ride is not as harsh, even after having the Vet suspension update. You still have all the computer nannies, ice, sport, tour, and 5 PTM selections in race mode as well as launch control and line lock. It is exactly the same as in the Vet but the buttons and switches to get there are not quite as polished. Exterior-This is subjective. I always thought the Vet looked angry, the ZL1 looks pissed off. There are so many styling cues in common with the Vet, I still see it every time I look at the ZL1. Other stuff-I don't worry as much taking the ZL1 out for dinner or in for service. I was always worried about the front carbon fiber splitter on the Vet, about $1500 to replace. The front splitter on the ZL1 is about $135, which is good because it doesn't have front cameras. The HUD is good but doesn't show as many functions as the Vet. Visibility is no worse in the ZL1 than it was in the Vet. However, the ZL1 does have blind spot detection. Would I do it again? Absolutely, I love the ZL1 and have no regrets. The ZL1 is 90% of the Vet for 60% of the cost. When the C8 Z06 comes out, I may trade again, but until then I am very happy with the ZL1. |
