This article may have been posted previously, I don't recall reading this amount of detail.
This blog is focused on the work Canis is doing on CAN bus and CAN security, but also covers the design of embedded software and hardware for automotive systems. Bottom line is harden your security system until manufacturer's fix the vulnerabilities. Excerpt from the service manual. Body Control System Description and Operation The body control system consists of the body control module (BCM), communications, and various input and outputs. Some inputs, outputs and messages require other modules to interact with the BCM. The BCM also has discrete input and output terminals to control the vehicle's body functions. The BCM is wired to the high speed GMLAN serial data bus, low speed GMLAN serial data bus and Multiple LIN buses and acts as a gateway between them. Power Mode Master This vehicle body control module (BCM) functions as the power mode master (PMM). The ignition switch is a low current switch with multiple discrete ignition switch signals to the PMM for determining the power mode that will be sent over the serial data circuits to the other modules that need this information; the PMM will activate relays and other direct outputs of the PMM as needed. Refer to Power Mode Description and Operation for a complete description of power mode functions. Gateway The body control module (BCM) in this vehicle functions as a gateway or translator. The purpose of the gateway is to translate serial data messages between the GMLAN high speed bus and the GMLAN low speed bus for communication between the various modules. The gateway will interact with each network according to that network's transmission protocol. All communication between the BCM and a scan tool is on the high speed GMLAN serial data circuits. A lost communication DTC typically is set in modules other than the module with a communication failure. Body Control The various body control module (BCM) input and output circuits are illustrated in the corresponding functional areas on the BCM electrical schematics. Refer to the Body Control System Schematics for more detailed information. Last edited by Roddrz; 04-28-2025 at 10:28 AM. |

Like "LethalGarage", the simplest solution may be the wireless battery disconnect switch, along with windshield and side window stickers, "OBD DISABLED", and additional stickers stating motion sensor alarm on the dash, and a motion sensor notification system. I'm beginning to evaluate the battery disconnect solution along with all of the computer resets. I dislike having to reprogram the windows after a battery disconnect, but this solution will provide peace of mind especially when travelling. Losing Radio / BCM presets are no concern if the car is secure. I normally leave my car doors open, I've had people rummage through the vehicle for money, but leave the vehicle undamaged. The truth, though, is that I also got lucky in that the service manager was an absolutely upstanding guy, who then only allowed their senior Corvette tech to work on my Camaro. I had a fantastic experience there, they treated me like royalty and I never had any issue whenever the car was in one of their service bays. They lifted it properly, triple-checking their lift arms before hoisting, never scratched or marred the paint even accidentally and so on. Mistakes were honestly admitted and immediately corrected on their dime (for example, once they stripped a single control arm bolt when replacing front brake ducts, and then they bought and installed a new control arm free of charge). Heck, when I told them the car was no longer stock, not only did they not refuse to work on it, they actually took turns in praising the mods... this tech even cleaned up my wheel hubs, always checked everything whenever they saw the car, and never padded the bill. So there definitely are gems out there, one just needs to find them.

Going to get my BCM and TCM flashed tomorrow for the 2 campaigns ("Vehicle Security Issue" & "A10 Early Valve Failure")... I REALLY dread going to the dealer... Only 2nd time there is 5+ years of ownership (the other was another computer issue)
I'll report back...

Subject: Soler Throttle Controller - Mode Lock 1; Disables accelerator pedal
Use Case: Using only the "Display", not the mobile device app, to set Mode Lock = 1. Does anyone know the backdoor process to enable Lock? I used to be able to use the Display option but I have forgotten how to enter into the backdoor mode through the Display to enable Lock. |

Like everyone else, ambient light and auto-windows down with the fob was reset... Otherwise, no other changes... Time to reinstall my various theft deterrent items...

I thought the A10 fix wasn't available yet. I got the BCM done not too long ago, but was told at the time the A10 fix wasn't in. Did I miss something?

The A10 TCM software update is available, this is the change that supposedly monitors the pressure in the trans and will warn approximately 10,000 miles prior to valve failure (and possible wheel lockup), I believe eventually there will be a further recall where they actually change parts in the trans, but that isn't available yet...

The 2 dealers in my area both told me it would be determined by VIN. I tried to call BS but that didn't work. I was told the remedy wasn't available yet. I tried to explain that I know the hard part fix wasn't available yet but that the TCM software update was. As with most service writers I have met they knew more than me so I just let it go. I would have thought if you got a recall letter then your VIN was in the recall. But what do I know.
