My customer finally dropped the car off today. He decided to upgrade to a Fore triple and Cordes ice tank. We're going to shoot for max blower speed and see what it makes.
Are they saying 18k RPM on this one also?

What is your blower speed target Mike? I was under the impression with the new 4x3 rotor pack that 18k RPM was no longer a hard limit.

EDIT: Also, FWIW, I was unable to get my 3.0 in without using the cradle spacers so I installed them.

Whipple told me 18,000rpm on the 3.0L as well.

We'll see what kind of boost it makes. This customer has a decently built 427 and enough fuel system for 1K+ so we'll go further if needed.

I'm definitely curious to hear the results!

I was told 18k was the rated limit but they seem to be ok going a little higher on other platforms. Some Hellcats have had failures pushing 25k.

Man there sure is a big difference between with the Whipples as far as blower speeds. I hope they have this blower lined out as they do with the 5.0. I think its been very reliable for the Ford guys.

Yeah I read an interview with Dustin Whipple where he made mention of the 18K no longer really being the hard limit and that going past it was not a big deal. Maybe he wasn’t supposed to say that lol. I’m going to START at 19,300 and go up from there.

So, just to beat this to death, because that is what we do … 18K makes zero sense on a 4x3 rotor pack. The 2.9 rotor pack was *longer* and therefore has a lower critical speed. Then with the fact that it was 5x3, that 3 rotor was really zipping along at 30,000 RPM when the 5 lobe was doing 18,000! So the 18K limit on a 2.9 made sense. That said, I spun my ported 2.9 at 19,000 to trap 149…

The 3.0 rotor is 4x3, so at 18,000 RPM the 3 lobe is spinning 20% slower than the old 2.9 was at the same pulley combo. Plus the rotors are a good bit shorter, giving them a higher critical speed than the 2.9 as mentioned above in this rant.

TLDR: I think we have much more wiggle room than before. Don’t tell Whipple I said that…

Not busting in on the 3.,0 but the 3100 also runs at a lower RPM then the 2650 from the way I understand it. Now, what that will actually mean in HP and Torque I don't know but thought I'd bring it up. I really don't have a dog in this hunt so don't get me wrong on this. I want everyone to succeed in this industry so bring everything to the table since we all benefit in the long run. I actually like the name Whipple better then Magnuson, but I like saying Maggie better then both.

I wish that Maggie 3100 was further along. Would have been cool to have another option. But the 2650/3.0 options are pretty damn good!

Finally back together for round 2 after the coolant pump replacement. Shop going to put a few hundred miles on it for break in (I don't have time ATM) then hand it over to me for the rest of the miles and oil change. Then back to shop for some fine tuning and a dyno tune and some #'s.

Finally , I got the numbers.

It took quite long time. Lots of extra works..making a bracket for smoothboost, meth port injection tubing...ect.
And was quite lazy due to cold weather here.

And here is the numbers.

The red one is whipple 3.0 and the blue one is 2650.

Almost the same boost level and the same spakr advance.
Seems it is identical.

The pulley size is

3" / 8" and 3" / 8.85" @19.1 psi around.

Awesome, thanks for sharing. The question now is going to be how overdriven the 3.0 can be without issues, and if it continues to gain power linearly. Next would be how each react to porting. I assume that is a Magnuson 2650?
