Weight difference coming into play. But those tires on the R are definitely some equalizers as well.
true, maybe I just put the Camaro a little to high in it's capabilities lol.

Eh, when they did the 13 GT500 vs the 12 ZL1 it was the same thing. GT500 beat the Chevy in every objective measure but they all crowned the ZL1. When they take subjective stuff into it, anything can happen.

The track focused Mustang lost to the GT Camaro, in every objective measure, and the Ford guys are strutting around like its some great victory.

Yet, when the same reasoning was applied the ZL1 vs GT500, they called Motor Trend Chevy Trend. I guess it's now Ford Trend.

So it would only make sense and give Ford the moral victory.

My biggest problem with the comparison is that there was no mention of the different tires in the car. The mustang with it's track focus comes with sport cup 2s. Probably at least a second per lap advantage with Randy at the wheel over the Goodyear's. Minimum.

I think this should have at least been mentioned.

Secondly, you guys need to relax. Jason and Johnny are entertainers. This video was awesome and entertaining. As with any subjective review, take it as that, not as fact.

I am going to be cancelling my mtod subscription though. Not enough content for the price.

I think it is funny the Mustang6g guys are saying the GT350R won, but yet the time was slower. Now I have taken a lot of math in college and I know that slower is slower.

So, they had to give the win to the GT350R so MT can sell more subscriptions.

It did win. This was not a racing event, but a subjective comparison. The fact that the GT350R remained as close as it did with as big of a horsepower deficit as it has is striking.

Is this not similar to the moral victory everyone was claiming when the SS 1LE was lapping fairly close to the GT350R in some instances?

I just went and re-watched the ZL1 episode on youtube. The ZL1 was almost 2 seconds faster that day. That's quite a difference - and not one I would ascribe simply to different conditions.

I thought tracking a car to arrive at a track time was what it is about. Faster. The Camaro SS 1LE Package had a 1:28.29, which is a tie of the GT350R of yesterday.

So to say the GT350R won is subjective not objective. To give it a moral victory serves what purpose in your mind.

To say the GT350R won on these criteria, they could have done that without running the track.

I just watched the teaser..... I see why the ZL1 was so much slower. It had 3 people in it.

Not really, remember the new C7 GS ran a 1:26 on the same track. The GT-R Nismo with 600hp was less than half a sec faster and AWD. Or it's ZO6 sibling ran a 1:25, so almost 200hp more only gave it a sec and a half on the same track. HP does not equal a quantum jump on track. Tires, weight differences and weight balance does go a long way. Just take a look at the Hellcat's times on Streets of Willow (an extreme example granted since it was slower than a Scat Pack).

I was able to hang with a gt350r in my NA 16 ss (mild suspension and wheel upgrades) . once I add a little bit of HP to it, I'll be able to beat it.

And honestly, I don't care for the sound of the voodoo. It sounds like a box of rocks to me.

Randy Pobst was nearly 3 seconds slower in the Viper ACR when he tested them almost 9 months apart. Conditions can play a huge role here.

Did you not watch the 2016 Motortrend Drivers Car challenge? The Viper ACR was by far the fastest, and yet MClaren 570S still won. the Viper was relinquished to 5th place, and was 3 seconds faster.

Tracking a car is only ONE metric.

Also, to say the SS1LE tied the GT350R is to say it also tied the ZL1. Of course, the 1LE was driven on a different day….which we know can have a huge effect on times.

Indeed, and yet….it was nearly just as quick as the Zl1.

Hahaha, that's exactly what I was thinking too

Seriously though, 2 sec difference is big, in one the ZL1 trounced the 2015 GT3 and now not any more...

Also, the tires on the ZL1 are pretty aggressive and bespoke for the ZL1, aren't they comparable to sport cup 2's? I think it's the wheels that take the GT350R over the top, the unsprung weight difference is incredible. Perhaps with some OZ superleggeras for the ZL1 could get some of that lightweight feel.

Does anyone know for a fact whether the ZL-1LE 19" wheels will be useable on the ZL1 (read somewhere something about the magneride suspension not allowing it...)
