Ford has a National Mustang Day event planned during the Press Days of the New York Auto Show. At the very least, they will have info on Mustang SVT / ST. Maybe, just maybe they will say a little more about the specs on GT500. I’ll be attending.

I also think that perhaps Ford needs to get as many of these engines out there to re-coup some of the money that went into the R&D. They might not have any choice but to offer it in a second platform. FCA offers the Hellcat engine in 3 and soon to be 4 different platforms. The LT4 is in 3 different platforms. It is becoming clear that the path to success is in offering powerplants across several platforms. Thinking ahead, perhaps the GT350 engine needs to trickle down to the GT. And if the Raptor gets the GT500 engine, then maybe a third platform, something by Lincoln, might do it well too.

Ford dealer here is trying to sell a used 2017 Raptor for 55k. Raptors around here also have ADM on them. (Montana people are nuts) I would like a Silverado with the LT4 but I'm not sure how well it would sell.

I think it would sell well enough to work...the Silverado already has the A10 anyways...and we already know the truck has enough room for the motor.

Anyhoo...here is something interesting.

The new Raptor will have the GT500 engine!! I posted that a few days ago but it kinda got lost in the mix. So to get this thread back to GT500 vs ZL1 related content...does GM need a competitor to this? Maybe a LT4 powered SUV or truck but tuned specifically for truck and SUV duty? Would be pretty cool. And if the GT500 gets an update after 2021 if the S550 carries on longer, could we also see the Raptor get those upgrades? Personally, I would probably prefer the Raptor over the GT500 for practical uses!!
I am not so sure if they would put the Predator in the Raptor. While it would be really cool I would be concerned if it would still be able to do truck stuff effectively. the Raptor is still capable of truck stuff, and even the Lightning back in the day could do truck stuff.

But I agree 100% GM is missing the mark on the performance SUV/Truck market. You guys can say what you want, but ford has the Edge ST, and upcoming Explorer ST. While not as hardcore as teh Dodge offerings at least it is something that offers more fun than a standard SUV.

Agreed

Especially when there is a 3.0TT on the shelf, not to mention a 4.2TT. Both Cadillac exclusive engines, by the way. Yes, they are currently RWD only, but so was the 5.7L / 6.0L small block before it found it’s way into the Impala SS.

Now that Lincoln is getting in the game with a 400 hp 3.0TT in the Aviator, maybe there will be an internal push to spike the punch for the Cadillac CUVs.

Now, after all that, I’m not totally convinced that Ford will put the GT500 engine in Raptor. It just seems like it’s too much club for the course. And a very expensive club at that.

This ^ GM has the parts just do it already!

yeah some dealers around me mark them up, others sell them at list. One thing for sure is I sure do see a ton of them around me so people are buying them up.

I for one wish GM offered a competitor to the Jeep Grand Cherokee V8 models like the 4x4 Overland and Summit, as well as the Trackhawk. I would take an LT1 powered SUV thats smaller than the Tahoe all day long. Like has been said, they missed that opportunity with the blazer, and I think ford will also miss that opportunity with the Bronco that is rumored to be pretty small.

GM misses a lot of opportunities they put out bland offerings no real RWD other than Camaro and Vette, somewhere in GM there is some design groups that would love to come out with a cool 2 door RWD Chevelle. Type of car that is bigger as people want a bigger car GM could expand a segment that only Dodge is in right now.

Cadillac has a few RWD options... and honestly, RWD just isn't a big deal anymore to MOST car companies.

Dodge, up until the advent of the LX cars (Magnum/Charger/Challenger) had only the Viper. Pretty sure they didnt even offer a RWD car at all through the entire 90's and early 2000's that wasn't a Viper aside from that very limited run of Plymouth Prowlers.. They also had the small run of Mercedes badged Chrysler Crossfires...

Honestly, GM has offered the most RWD options in the last 30 years....

Pretty much my take as well....they really missed the boat with the new Blazer...

Another Blazer SS with an LT1 could have sold well...instead we get that crap they call a Blazer...

I still very much miss the two door Tahoe/Blazer model...

I think the Bronco is rumored to be about wrangler sized which makes sense to me. Anything bigger and it is roughly an explorer

Through the 90's I driving my 2 Mustangs 4 Cutlass and my 73 455 Delta 88

I think Ford was selling more RWD platforms than anything GM was making they were King with the Grand Marquee and Crown Vic till 2011, I had 4 of those as well, I want a bigger RWD platform GM lost my business for the last 29 years because there was a void that GM had in their lineup.

Me too!! I was in highschool in the late 90's, and those were really popular among some of my friends. I really loved those.

That makes a lot of sense now that you mention it, not sure why I didn't consider what Ford already had in the mid size SUV range.
