Too bad you didn't have an uncle or older brother hand you down his collection of Car and Driver and Road and Track magazines from 20 years before.

My uncle gave me his stacks of those magazines from the 60s when I was about 10, so that would have been around 1987.

You'd have been well versed in the history of the Camaro long before Transformers came out.

I'm not saying advertisement is not out there, but I don't see it.
Spot on, between the 8 year hiatus, and the dead on design of the 5th Gen. People couldn't wait to get their hands on one. Add this, once it came out, from 2010 to 2014 you park a Camaro next to a Mustang, and that Ford might as well have been a Toyota Corolla. The Camaro was just that much better looking.
However, I have to admit that Ford did a really nice job with the redesign. I still prefer the Camaro, 5th or 6th Gen, but the divide isn't nearly as big as it was before. It's simply a tougher choice asthetically and in performance. The bad news about the 8 spd auto didn't help Camaro either. Then, when GM finally puts a great automatic in it, they also put the ugly face on it. It's like they went out and got the biggest pistol they could find, and promptly shot themselves in the foot with it.

I don't know what all the Mustang gens are called, but the 5th gen Camaro also benefited from Mustang being on a rather unfortunate redesign after the 2005(?) model was such a hit. They kinda leapfrogged each other in that way, with the current Mustang killing right when the 6th gen arrived. I know it's not common knowledge here where the differences seem so obvious, but I think a lot of the general public don't even realize 5th and 6th gens are different designs.

I can see your point on that. The general public more than likely sees it like the 4th gen face lift from '93-'97 to the '98-'02.

Exactly, and much better stated than my convoluted post from late last night. Don't be like me and post half asleep!

You'd have been well versed in the history of the Camaro long before Transformers came out.
But then you'd have to explain what a magazine is.

like your magazines, the camaro is basically stuck in the wrong generation than it needs to be to survive.

If your 16 to 30 year olds dont want it or can't afford then your obviously built to cater to 16-30 year old car is going to have problems.

transformers is nice and all, but it's not in the same ballpark as effective as a weekly tv show about a sentient spy car (and the trans am was close enough to the camaro to help both) that goes on for years.

but i doubt any amount of advertising would help the camaro. It's just far too expensive to have fun on the road and simply driving around isn't seen as entertaining to people as it once was. the demographic has changed and there's not enough room for 3+ pony cars like they used to be.
