Hmm....Second dyno sheet to show a lose of low-end torque. Nothing I've seen so far makes me want to pull out the credit card.

Packaging: A+
Really really well packaged for shipping. Also appreciated that the hardware and gaskets were in a bag that was complemented for the different items. Made installation that much easier.

Quality of Parts: A
I was really hesitant to order because pictures don't do it justice. The box is extremely well engineered and high quality steel. I thought it was going to be cheap plastic, but it definitely has a premium feel to it. While the tubing is plastic, it is very high quality. Smooth edges and excellent finish. The small gripe is I wish this was available in carbon fiber and had the same quality to it.

Installation: A
It's a breeze. There were no surprises and the directions were some of the best I've ever come across. Coming from the world of aircraft maintenance, I can definitely appreciate good technical data. It still can be improved. For example, bring more attention to warnings and cautions. Also, the last section of directions needs to be broken down into multiple steps.

Sound: A
I was worried when people said it makes the supercharger while louder. I thought I'd be listening to it screaming at me all the time, but it's not like that at all. The intake sound went from non-existent to simply noticeable if you're paying attention. You hear it the most when you're cruising and tip into the throttle a little bit. I actually wouldn't mind it being a little louder.

Performance: B
**Disclaimer - My AFR in both conditions is super rich at 10ish. My car only has about 1100 miles on it and I've heard rumors that GM might have a "Break in" tune. **

Conditions -
  • Baseline was on August 19th, 91deg, 29.68 in-Hg, 39% Humidity. Shop insisted on running in 6th first to make sure it didn't exceed dynos top speed recommendation. Also, they didn't put a fan on the engine. Hood open.
  • RotoFab dyno happened a week later on Aug 26th after daily driving the car and letting it learn the new air flow. 83degs, 29.90 in-Hg, 50% Humidity. One fan on radiator with hood open. First run was highest result.

So taking the conditions into effect, I don't think I would have picked up any significant horsepower. I think the shop lost me about 5 hp not getting a good first run in during the baseline. The baseline was warmer but had lower humidity. I'm not sure how that will change the results. Biggest difference is an instant loss of about 6-7 torque and dropping the hp within that dropped torque power band. I'm hoping that I can figure out what is going on with my AFR. I'm going to hit the dyno again in another week or so and see if it might be a break-in safety measure. So, I'm a little disappointed in the numbers, but I know those aren't everything.

Also, my best run didn't log the boost appropriately, but it only picked up less than half a pound on the other runs.

I got a baseline on the drag strip. Launching was rough but I was seeing consistent 123mph trap speeds. I didn't get to the track this weekend, but I should be able to make it soon.

Now for what matters: Real world driving. I love it. I wouldn't swear it feels faster in the butt-dyno, but the car does feel more alive. It almost felt lazy before. The car is responding better, sounding better, and just feels all-around more aggressive.

Conclusion: A-
Simply put:
Would I buy this product again? Absolutely
Would I recommend it? In a heart beat
Would I re-buy a carbon fiber version? Shut up and take my money!
Kermit ZL1,

Thank you for taking the time to thoroughly review our system! We appreciate hearing your positive feedback. In every case so far (including our testing) our ZL1 system picks up an additional 10-15 HP with the hood closed vs. open. The 10-15 HP difference on top of the gains you saw would would put you right in the 25 HP range we have seen with this CAI. That's probably why you feel more of a difference in actual driving.

To avoid the intake of stagnant engine heat on the dyno, we recommend shutting the hood just before making the dyno pull. This will help simulate the fresh air that you would be taking in while driving down the road.
