Cold Rubbing noise

Hi guys,

Lovin' my 2018 2SS. Just one thing, in the morning cold there's a rubbing sound from the rear right when I make a hard left turn. Nothing apparent from the wheels and it seems to be only in the cold morning and not on the drive home from work. Any thoughts?

Thanks,
NJerzeeSS

It could be your differential. Take it to the dealer.

^^ +1

They will change the fluid, and this will many times fix it. It's a sticky diff clutch pack. That fluid gets nasty fast early on! Hope it works out for you.

Thanks all, bringing it tomorrow to fix the trunk latch. I'll add it to the list!

It's a shame that this issue is still occurring in 2018 models.

Most likely the differential, as stated above. Mine made that exact same noise when I turned left in the cold mornings. Woudn't happen much when it was above 50F. Dealership found metal pieces all in my differential, they ended up changing the entire carrier. No more groan/rubbing noise in the mornings.

Agreed on the diff. Just had my diff replaced at 6200 miles because it was groaning like hell.

Have to leave it overnight next week. They couldn't replicate the noise when I swung by earlier this morning. I guess it was too warm by then. Also the trunk magically worked perfectly. LOL! What a PIA

Yea my dealership couldn't replicate the noise, but the technician said he "thought" he heard a noise at one point. That gave the service department good enough reason to perform the service bulletin on draining the rear end and replacing it, at which point he saw the metal chunks in the fluid. Or at least I think he said service bulletin.

Just had mine fixed. Paperwork references TSB 17-na-287. Rear axle moan type noise on turns. They drained it, drove it said it sill made noise, but not as much. Drained and drove it again and said it was fixed. I will see the next few mornings if it is or not.

Replacing the rear diff fluid at the dealer worked best for me, but this is normal on the new Camaros. Active Fuel Management causes groaning

The infamous GROAN... F'N rear diff is a pain in the balls. The only problem i have had in my Camaro in the 2 years owning the 6th gen is this. It is hard to replicate unless its on a cold day and start so leaving the car at the dealership overnight is what most will say. I am going in on my third trip for this, hopefully they just replace it this time around. only have about a year left on my warranty i presume.
