Black dust and splats
I have a 2018 SS 1LE and ive put 400 miles on it all under 4k rpm per the suggested mfr. Break in.
I can't go 5 miles without the entire rear and sides of the car covered in strange black dust. The doors and quarter panels get covered in splats of black dust. It sticks like static and moves around while trying to use a California duster or microfiber towel. At first I thought it could be brake dust, but it seems darker. I also thought it could be tire shine stuff that the dealer applied, but I wiped the tires down. Also, after 400 miles, I thought it would get better but no luck. It's so bad, that my door jambs and body lines turn black and some are very hard to clean like the gap between the quarter panel and rear bumper cover. I also thought it might be exhaust due to some other threads, but the pipes are clean and doesn't explain the sides of the car. The wheels do get covered in dust, but it is more brown than black. Essentially I have to fully clean the entire car every time I drive it due to this black stuff. My car is Summit white, so granted it shows all dirt, but my towels turn black from cleaning even after a quick 5 mile drive. Ridiculous! Anyone else experience this or habe any idea where it may be coming from? Makes me not want to drive the car because I know it will cause me 30 minutes of detailing afterwards.

Betcha it’s brake dust. Brembo pads are really messy. I changed to ceramics on my 18 SS and ended the problem. Car stops great with no mess. You might not want ceramics if you track your 1LE but I street drive so the ceramic pads are fine for me.

It's normal. Having a splash guard/rock guard definitely helps.
I have these. Definitely noticed a difference once installed. Still got dirty but not nearly as quickly. https://zl1addons.com/collections/ro...nt=30384124865 I also swapped out the stock super dusty brake pads. |

This summer, I may switch out the pads because this is ridiculous. Guess that's what I get for choosing summit white... lol |

It's brake dust. Here's a guide on what to get and how to change them (very easy on these cars). Hope It helps!
The guards will help a little but not enough. Get the Powerstop Z26 pads. Nearly zero dust! The SS 1LE uses C7 Z06 pads (hard to find that online, but just use those parts (1405 and 1718) http://www.camaro6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=490810

However you sort this out, wash the car in iron-X… You’ll be amazed how much brake dust is still on the car…
