M6 "Phantom Rev" issue answers yet?
There is a previous thread regarding the issue with the car going straight to 4-5k rpm without throttle input in first gear, with clutch in. (With Active Rev Matching on or off). Typically happens when modulating/riding the clutch slightly in a slow moving situation (at a drive thru, sitting in a traffic jam) prior to the car deciding to rev all by itself. I haven't seen any posts regarding any resolution or dealer response other than "We can't find anything."
It's very inconvenient to take it to my dealer, so if there is a 99% chance they will not know what I'm talking about I had planned on waiting for input from others based on their experience with resolution of the problem. The problem is, it's becoming an issue. I'm actually avoiding going to a drive thru, as it happens frequently in this scenario and I look like a complete jackass. "Yeah, sure your car does it by itself." -- after I roll up to the window and apologize, saying it sometimes revs up by itself. Or as I'm pulling away the employee at the window gets a 5k rpm flaps open thank you for the food. It's ridiculous and extremely embarrassing. What has become a minor annoyance is now causing me stress, waiting for it to happen dropping my daughter off at school, which would result in the car not being used much. Anybody have any knowledge of a fix? |

ive never had any issues.
if it does it with rev matching off it could be a bad throttle sensor or ecm issue. it sounds like it does it often based on your post, you should get a video of it and take it in to your dealer for repair.

I don’t recall seeing any solutions/fixes for it yet. Over roughly 3,500 miles I’ve had it happen twice.

I'm at 15k miles already (yeah I drive it a lot) and have not noticed it UNLESS I activate Rev Match. I tend to rarely use Rev Match. But even after just toggling it on/off - the car will "phantom rev" randomly while the clutch is pressed, in gear, rolling in a parking lot.
So my fix is to simply not use (or activate) Rev Match. The result - I'm a hell lot better at heel/toe and rev matching myself lol. Have not had it phantom rev for a few months now as I have not activated/toggled Rev Match. I agree, there must be a fix from Chevrolet sometime soon to fix it - there are way too many cases of this "phantom rev" across the forums. |

Someone should nominate this for an "Ask Al" guestion, if it hasn't already been done.

It does it in mine but it’s really not a big deal to me. I anticipate the surge and let it burp and fart or whatever I figure it’s doing and then it’s fine.

Good question, and I haven't really paid attention to that although once I learned about the nuances of the various modes, I have been running with the nannies completely off the majority of the time (and the phantom revs have been happening more frequently). You may be on to something.
I'll run around with the nannies on a higher percentage of the time to test it out to see if my experience mirrors yours. More often than not, I will do at least one first and second gear pull with redline shift daily and with the traction I get on dry pavement in AZ, I just prefer the feel with everything I can turn off being off (although I understand torque management is still there). It would be a hassle to mess around with modes even more frequently during each drive, however if I can be confident phantom revs will not occur if I'm in a certain mode it would be extremely helpful. In addition, others have documented on PDR that no throttle was applied during the episode and I should probably try to catch an episode if I'll have any shot of having the dealer do anything other than roll their eyes at me when I take it in. I really appreciate the input and suggestions. Ultimately we will likely come to a collective consensus with valuable observations from those experiencing the issue, paying attention to the variables. I'm sure it's something that can be fixed. Unlike the launching issue, I see no reason why GM wouldn't fix this issue once they are aware of it not being an isolated problem. |
