The only reason to get an auto would be if you drive in a lot of traffic for a long time every day. Otherwise why would anyone get an auto that can drive a manual? Such a better driving experience for a muscle car.

Lol I almost spit out my coffee. Very funny and I vote for the manual as well.

2006 X3 = M6, 2017 2SS = M6
Drive or do not drive.
There is no auto to drive.

Do you like to drag race? Drive in heavy traffic? Do you like to drink, drive, smoke a cigarette and talk on the phone at the same time? Automatic

Do you like to go online and post about why you're so awesome? Do you like to have a stick in your hand to jiggle? Do you do HDPE/road course? Do you have a superiority complex? Manual.

Who cares buy what you like. Asking for opinions about a big purchase on the internet is a terrible idea. Nobody is making your payments but you.

OP, the opinions you will get here will be based personal preference. My suggestion, is to try both then decide for you.
One thing though, I am not sure how well the Hill Assist works in the 6th gen. I have it on my 5th gen and I hate it, hate it, hate it. If you have been to San Fran, there are very few flat roads. I have stalled many times driving in the city because of the Hill Assist. Have I known about it during before I bought my car, I probably would have bought an L99.

The hill assist is fantastic. It works even on a slight incline and holds the car for a solid 3-4 seconds.

Those 3-4 seconds are long enough that I get honked at.

A8 is faster from dig or roll...especially when tuned. I have owned both manual and automatic car.. they both are fun when done correctly. The best advice given in this thread was to drive both and decide for yourself.

The easiest way to decide whether you should buy an Auto or a Manual is to think about which one you would prefer to have. If you're unsure, test drive both, then pick the one you want.

Manual vs Automatic

You’ve probably already made your decision by now but I’ll post anyway. This weekend I took my brand new 1LE in to the canyon for some “break-in” time. Nothing but a s-eat’n grin afterward. The manual transmission had me so engaged on every turn. I like to choose when to shift and paddle shifting is not the same experience. This probably sounds stupid but I ride dirt bikes and it reminded me of ripping down a single track on the bike, choosing gears based on the conditions. Couldn’t imagine an automatic dirt bike and the riding experience that would be lost by doing so. Anyhow, the rev matching was incredible and makes perfect sense on windy roads for downshifting to accelerate out of corners. I am sold on the manual transmission. Having said that, if open roads are not accessible and heavy traffic congestion was the norm I would reconsider the automatic.
