$1200 cash for mine. A good friend who has a 6-month waiting list. Here is what I had done:
PAINT: Polished first with CarPro Essence Xtreme Gloss Enhancer Two applications CQuartz Finest Ceramic Coating RIMS: Feynlab Coating ROOF: Duragloss 341 Convertible Fabric Restorer TIRES: Opti-Bond Tire Gel WINDOWS: CarPro FlyBy Forte MAINTENANCE: CarPro ECH20 Waterless Wash & Detail Spray http://www.autogeek.net/carpro-ech20.html Paint correction was MANDATORY before anything was done, and he said he was quite impressed with the GM paint.

So when you guys say paint correction you're not talking about wet sanding to get rid of orange peel? How long does ceramic coating last? What separates it from synthetic waxes like rejex?

Ah ok. Thanks for the explanation. Why is everyone calling this paint correction and paying a lot for it? Your average detailer can clay bar and compound for $150. Why would anyone pay these prices for so called paint correction when it's not correcting anything but surface scratches on the clear. I've had real paint correction done on my Ferrari which took 2 days and 2 guys wet sanding and using lasers to detect imperfections. That's what I was thinking they were taking about.
Seems like there's no magic about this and detailers are ripping people off. My recommendation is if you don't want to do this yourself, just buy some ceramic coating online and bring it to a local joe detailer and have it all done for $200. This is in no way with even $500 it sounds like. You can have professional body shop wet sanding done that will truly correct your finish for much less than people are paying for this. And it will look like a mirror, not an orange. Anyone that's putting this coating over a ZL1 paint job that has not been wet sanded is missing the boat. Take it to a body shop and have it done correctly. Then have someone slap a coat or two on and you'll be stunned. The magic is in the wet sanding by people that know paint and clear coats. Very very few detailers know much about it. This sounds a lot like a scam. Here's a corvette that's been corrected by wet sanding. I think most people are coating over the paint on the left. Yes there's no scratches but it doesn't reflect light correctly. This sounds a lot like the wax my detailer has for the Enzos and Bugattis that's $5000 per can. Even my detailed says it's a complete rip off but his high end guys won't let him user anything else on their cars so a detail ends up costing $3000 which they do several times a year. https://www.google.com/search?q=corv...uZ4Cmep5mmiLM: https://www.google.com/search?q=Pain...n08Q6INVAopOM: Last edited by 355spider; 11-21-2017 at 10:52 AM. |

I think you need to watch the video that I posted. A proper ceramic Application is 25 hours. Hundred dollars an hour is fair. Friend doing it or not it is not cheap by any means

If you are that cheap, then i'd recommend opening up a detail shop. Be the Walmart of pricing and shut everyone down.

I have coated 8 to 10 cars as long as I’ve been in this hobby. I’ve used opticoat, cquartz, 22 PLE, and one other one I can’t remember. I get perfect results I don’t need 25 hours to do it. Usually it takes 6 to 7 hours of polishing, using two polishes and many pads, and a lot of elbow grease on a Saturday. Then I come back on a Sunday and it takes me 2 to 3 hours to actually apply the coating. You definitely can do it yourself if you want to, And there are many detailers that will do the car from bumper to bumper including the tires and interior and everything else and maybe get 15-20 hrs. out of it. The real key is finding out what the detailer is going to do. It doesn’t take 15 hours to polish a NEW car, which is what we are talking about here. It might take a lot longer for a five-year-old car that had major damage to it. But this is a new car forum. In my opinion you should be paying somewhere between 600 and $1200 for a nano ceramic coating. All just my opinion and my experience . By the way , the first Google link that spider put above is my car. That’s my C7 i wetsanded..... It took about a weekend to do it just working during the day.
There are many detailers out there that are , in my opinion unscrupulous, when I comes to coatings, because they know you don’t know what’s going on, so they charge $1800 and do $900 worth of work. I have had detailers tell me directly, that they love guys with new expensive cars, because we will pay anything to protect it. Detailers in New York and Los Angeles maybe getting $100 an hour for labor, but the rest of the country it’s more like 60 to 75. Do the math ,asked him how many exact hours it’s gonna take for each particular stage, and then post it here. Remember this is a new car, it shouldn’t have to have major paint correction having to be done. And keep in mind that coatings just wipe on and it’s done. It’s not rocket science. I also might add that it’s not absolutely necessary you do it. A good polymer sealant or even a nano ceramic sealant like reload will get you great protection for 6 to 7 months. And that’s just a wipe on type deal .....my car is not coated. I’m a carpro essence/reload guy.
