M6 guys who snapped your halfshafts... And just general halfshaft quesitons....

What were you doing when they went? How much were you pushing?


A member recently mentioned he popped his on STOCK power using slicks launching at a mere 3500rpm

What are these supposed to be able to take? Seems like DSS wrote an article about how these do fine until you find yourself in the 600-700hp range

Although I'll be adding a DSS solution to my ever growing "one last mod" list... I want to hear some other stories. Should I just granny off the line with a sticky 20 incher and call it a fkin day until I get proper DSS upgrades? Or have any other M6 dudes been launching on slicks at the 600whp range without breaking shit?

I will let you know Friday. I'll be launching mine with 17" bias ply slicks. Granted I'm not going to be dumping the clutch at high RPMs but it'll still be a hard launch.

Besides Cdflyer breaking his with slicks, there was another guy who said he had stock engine and broke an axle with Michelin Sport Cup 2 tires. Then there was a Procharged car that broke one using drag tires. These are reports I've seen on this forum of M6 cars breaking.

It seems to be hit or miss. I have noticed often that once the halfshafts are upgraded the next weak link becomes the trans/clutch. Always seems like we are one more upgrade and a little more $ away from being reliable lol... Makes the idea of just spinning the factory F1's somewhat palatable

Something I have noticed on the forums and FB pages is that some have experienced the half axle bolts baking out. This is something to have checked out the next time that you bring your car in for service.

I broke one stock power on a mickey r switched to slick no more issues

so how do these compare to the 4th gens and 10 bolts?
i know i went through 3-4 gear sets before moving to a 9 inch on my 94.

I still haven't placed my order for ET Street R's but we'll see how things go. Les has been launching his with a blower and DRs, no issue for him yet. Hit and a miss indeed.

As said earlier. Stock power and a slick. The video on GForce’s FB page is my video. Now ProCharged with their axles and haven’t had an issue.

Just wanted to update this thread to say... I wanted to literally shit my pants from excitement when I read about Chevy's drag pack parts.

Their axles are rated at 5k tq and they have a drive shaft option. Best part? Rear axles are 910 bucks on camaropartsguy page. This is one of the happiest days.


Also hearing that the zr1 has a port injection setup gives me hope that this will birth a cheaper kit to have port/dfi work together. I am beyond excited for this next year and next stage of upgrades!!!

Isn't the drag pack stuff for the ZL1?

It’s supposed to adapt to the SS, but that might mean the diff is required as well. I know GForce made a bunch of parts for GM when they were testing their drag pak cars though. So it might not be too far from working.
