Buy A Rental Convertible?
I am looking to get a convertible G6 and by far the vast majority that I find on AutoTrader or Cars.com are all rental cars.
I obviously would not buy a rental that came out of the south/southeastern US. But I found a red SS that came out of Wisconsin and is listed for a good price. I contacted the dealer about it and they said it would come with what is left on both the powertrain and bumper to bumper warranty. They said the origination date of the car is April 2017 so the warranties would go from that point forward. The car has ~13K miles and "appears" to be in great condition. I know these cars get driven like their stolen but with the remainder of the warranty is that really an issue? Anyone have experience buying a rental camaro? Should i stay away from rentals? Anything I should ask the dealer? I plan on having my local mechanic look it over before I would purchase it. |

I would by a rental car. A few questions:
1. The car rental company is/ was the first owner 2. Who did the break in? 3. What about oil change/ diff. oil change Normally the engine is tough enough to withstand the idiots. i don’t see any issue.

Can you detail why you wouldn't buy a rental? Won't the warranty alleviate most of the issues? According to the carFax the car was serviced at the dealership at 7000 miles.

Rental cars can have a tremendous amount of hidden damage i.e. damage you don’t see upon inspection, and it’s what happens when the warranty is over that is the problem.....
besides who wants a car that’s in for service for warranty, several possible times during its warranty period, Many times being fixed by a technician that is either incompetent or doesn’t care. Look for somebody who treated the car a little better. Don’t get cheap. There’s another hidden thing that I’ve seen, and that is a car is that it been smoked in. To get them ready for the auction and sell, they will spray a fabreze type spray, but after a month , the stink comes back because it’s all in the roof liner…

As a automotive technician I would never buy an ex-rental car, almost all (if not all) of them for sale have been badly crashed and fixed poorly and cheaply without going through a insurance company so a crash will never show up on a carfax.

if you sell a car with an accident you have to mention it by law over here if you don’t (it is a crime) you can give the car back and you will get your money back.

Most if not all rental cars are used and abused. Driven extremely fast, driven over every possible pothole in its path, and serviced by high school drop outs. If they’re ever serviced at all. Save yourself a headache and spend a little more on a used car more likely to have been appreciated and cared for by the previous owner.

Any used car is a roll of the dice unless you no the person and 100% and the cars history.
Used on the lot, private, demo, rental. Your taking a chance. Myself bought new because I want to keep it. If your just keeping for a few years and flipping it. Then roll the dice. Good lucky on a great deal. Seriously!

Why wouldn't you buy one from the south. Just curious but I would never buy another northern car. I learned that the hard way. To much salt rust.
