Nice runs

How many passes you got on your car? It seems to be taking them like a champ as is mine...

Snowblind best time I believe is 11.1@123 and still trying to get things figured out after the gear change/proper shifting. Has more in it.
Drag pack. Ported stock intake with cai. Ported stock TB. Gears. E85. Untouched exhaust. Stock suspension stock converter. And I think removed seats/light WR.
Crazy fast for those mods.

I wish I had time to get to the track. Haven't been in some time. So I live vicariously through threads like this.

Yes as you can see the A8 SS loves even mild bolt-on mods. I have more mods than Snowblind. One bolton M6 has run an 11.4 so more speed is possible. For me to get there I would need to drop some weight (Me and the car), add a drag pack, and slick, a great launch, and really good air. Then I think a 4.10 gear could drop another tenth or maybe 2. The M6 SS is overgeared, but 30 MPG on the highway ain't bad.

The car is holding up great. Maybe I have about 100 runs on the car. The clutch feels good. They say at Atco I baby the car too much. Maybe so, I am just having fun. I am impressed at how the SS diff is holding up for us. Adding some cast iron to the case was a good move for the CA6.

Interesting side note: Pat has spent thousands less total on his low 10 second Auto GT than I have with my high 11 second bolton SS. But to be fair it is 2SS vs base GT. If we just count the mods we have spent about the same. And it is just silly for us to race with how much more he got out of his cash. I have no interest in bolting on a supercharger to my SS. I know from past experience with a manual FI is a bad move if you really run your car. My SS is too much fun to drive and a 10 second car is just silly and dangerous on the street if you really drive it. And my "slow" 11 second SS is fast enough to thrill me.

But now Pat is getting bored with his car getting faster and closer to the 9s with him doing nothing to the car. It is finally getting broken in!

So if he finds a buyer for his 2017 he will get a 2018 PP1 auto GT. Then its game on. I think his 2018 GT with just tires will be an even match for my bolton M6 SS. What do you think? But once he races Snowblind he will be strapping on another Paxton and then go back to being bored. It is a never ending cycle with Pat.

Where do I go from here? Well I was thinking about gears, specifically a 4.10 if Richmond comes through next spring. And then there is always heads and cam. But with all that I would have a very hard time returning my car back to stock if I ever want to sell/trade it. So I wonder if I would regret those mods.

I think my real dream is to sell my SS as stock and then pick up a 5th gen M6 ZL1. As much as I dig driving my SS the last ZL1 calls to me. It is not so cramped, looks so bada$$, and the drive train is built like a rock. Even with mods the only thing you need to worry about replacing is tires, brakes, and a clutch. To me that is the ultimate Camaro. The CA6 is more like a Corvette with a tiny back seat. Not a bad thing, but maybe not a keeper for me.

Anyone want to trade?

After owning three 5th gens (including a ZL1) and two 6th gens, I could never go back to a 5th gen. They feel like a tank (and not in a good way) compared to a 6th gen.

If you wanna blow your buddies doors off, you guys should switch to auto cross racing.

Agreed the gen 6 is a better driving car, but the 5th gen 1LEs and ZL1s are also great fun to drive.

With the cramped interior and small windows the CA6 feels like a claustrophobic tank to me and not in a good way. Which is to say it makes the car less fun to drive on a long trip. While 5th gen also has a visibility problem the more roomy and much better looking interior mitigates that which makes that car more of GT sports car rather than a sports car. I have taken both on long trips and the last Camaro is a better long distance car.

It was my choice to pick up a CA6 SS when GM bought back my ZL1. I wanted to try one. And I do like it and most likely will keep it. But if I could switch back to a ZL1 for free I might just do it.

I went to Atco last Sunday and last night.....

Sunday was a boatload of fun. I was an Atco Event called the Fall Finale. There were several race events including Test & Tune. Pat and Snowblind were there. The DA was negative but my car is a little low on E so I didn't expect much. The prep wasn't so good but the staging was very organized.

My best run was the last of my three runs an 11.930@119.17.

But the best part was my grandson Owen, my wife Eileen and my oldest daughter Lauren who all came to cheer me on. Lauren made a recording of that last run see below.

Last night was not as much fun but rather a strange night at Atco. They opened at the last minute and it was pretty cold. The DA was sick around -1,500. Only a few showed up. I think I ran 8 or nine times in 2 hours and could have run more. I could only get a couple of clean launches with a 11.907@119.60 and a best of 11.844@120.04. The prep and the cold made things a little scary, so I left.

Pat ran a 10.302 at over 137. Crazy!

Other big news was made, Snowblind captured his first 10 second run! See his discussion here.

Supercharged Owen!

I went to Atco last night...

The DA was around -250 all night. But the prep was good so half of my runs were in the 11s.

My best was a 11.87@120.46. My second best was below racing a T4 Mustang Auto. He was rolling! I only beat him because he has to spool up at the line. I also had fun racing a bolt-on LS2 GTO running 12.0s consistently. I just managed to edge him out twice.

Snowblind was there running 11.1s and of course Pat was there smoking a couple of Hellcats. The place was empty. I could have made 20 runs but left after 6.

I decided to skip Atco Black Friday this year. Maybe only a night or two left in the season. I found a really good BF deal on a DragStar drag pack. Hmmmm.

Well, Atco is all but over for the year.

I almost pulled the trigger on a DragStar drag pack Black Friday Sale. 40% off!

But then I didn't. I guess I really don't feel like swapping all 4 wheels for a tenth or maybe 2. And I am still in the fence about 4.10 gears should they arrive. Then I started looking at 5th gen ZL1s and noticed CA6 ZL1 M6es were hitting the low $50's. Hmmm.

Then I realized I could only get $30K for my 2SS if I am lucky. Do I live it up now or worry about my future $$? I have wasted so many $$ on cars, but then it's been a blast.

With a new CA6 ZL1 I could leave it stock and probably run mid 11s on a good DA night like Mr. Webster. Why are all the modded A10 ZL1s so comparatively slow?

Took a look over on the other forum to learn about trim packages like 301A, PP1, PP2, gear options etc and I stumbled upon this.
