I wasn't paying enough attention when I got my ZL1. So I wasn't aware that there would be a 1LE version. It's a good thing that I really wanted the A10 and that the 1LE version did not offer it...because I would have been mad at myself otherwise. If I wanted the M6 (and had known about the 1LE) then I would have waited. As far as ride stiffness is concerned, I DD my ZL1 in track mode (suspension settings) exclusively. And I do not think the ride quality is bad at all. In fact I do find it comfortable. Except on a really REALLY bumpy road. And I mean bumpy. So I'm not sure what settings the 1LE version has for the suspension or how they compare to track mode in the standard ZL1. But if it has a mode that is comparable to track mode in the ZL1 then I could drive it all day and be happy, lol!!
If you can take the financial hit and are ok with it then I say go for it. Especially if it is something you'll enjoy. |

Just to be clear, my desire to change from the ZL1 to ZL1 1LE really has nothing to do with the wheel slip/launch issue. At least a few folks seem to be assuming that is the case, but it isn't. No big deal... just FYI.
I've learned to avoid the driveability issue, and since I don't frequent the drag strip, the launching issue isn't a big enough problem to prevent me from buying another M6 ZL1. I'd certainly welcome the fix. The way the M6 ZL1 launches is embarrassing, but the car works beautifully on a road course. |

We don't know if that's the reinforcement that GM is talking about for sure.

That's true. However, the gentleman that posted the video is pretty emphatic about it being the reinforcement. If you watch all the way to the end, he mentions that his friend, Jim, is a qualified expert on the Chevrolet body. No idea what that means, but I'll take an educated guess that his friend has some insight as to how and where GM reinforced the trunk lid.

The ZL1 1LE was introduced earlier this calendar year as Model Year 2018 car. I believe the MY2018 order banks opened in May 2017, with production of MY2018 cars following. So I don't think there is a way to "reinforce" the 2016-2017 decklid in terms of a GM-part number OEM-warrantied stiffener kit; the reinforcement comes in the form of a part number change to the 2018 decklid that is structurally stiff enough to support the downforce generated by the 1LE spoiler.

If his next video is titled “My 2018 ZL1 trunk lid install”, we’ll know it wasn’t reinforced.

Seems like a good question to get posted to "Ask Al" section? Perhaps Al can clarify this question once and for all with his engineers. I am sure all 2017 owners would love to know this.

Do not do it!!! Traded in my 17 ZL1 for a ZL1 1LE. I owned the ZL1 1LE for almost 3 weeks. Two nights ago I traded in the 18 ZL1 1LE for a 18 ZL1. I lost a lot of money !!!
When the engineers say 1LE is a hard mounted F1 inspired suspension & the only rubber in the suspension is the tire, they are not kidding. Spool valve technology started life in a tractor & Comfort is not one of the design attributes. The 1LE is a straight Racecar. The A10 on the freeway would pull the ZL1 1LE like it has 100 more horsepower. A M5 pulled on my old ZL1 1LE. When I had my 17 ZL1 I would pull on the M5. 18 ZL1 @ 80 mph = 3000 RPM. I was averaging 14 miles a gallon. Now I am back in the A-10. 19’s all day long. Above 70 MPH the 1LE is slow. Gearing is for a racetrack & the car is barely streetable.
