A10 - Performance Shift Mode

Quick question, is there a way to force the car into the "Performance Shift Mode"? Or is the only way to get there when it starts to detect hard acceleration/braking/turns/etc?

I've done a few WOT runs so far, and didn't see the message that it was activated. I haven't yet done a canyon run in the car with tight turns and heavy braking to see if that will activate it.

Thanks!

When in auto you can tap the accelerator to the floor & it will engage for a few seconds...you can also hold shifter back / downshift for 2 seconds & it will drop to the lowest gear around the 6k range.

I'm not 100% sure if you have to be in the sport / track mode or if it does it in tour as well?? It should activate in WOT??

Good question, I'm eager to glean insight from the other posters. But from my personal experience its when I'm pressing my foot on the gas fast enough to when the vehicle realizes it. At which point, the "Performance Shift Active'' prompt comes up. Then as I begin to slow down or decelerate, its like the vehicle is gradually ''calming down'' (aggressive downshifts) its amazing

What made me interested to find out more was I had the amazing opportunity (thanks to a B-Day gift from my brother) to drive a Ferrari 458 Italia yesterday (among some other amazing cars) on a canyon run event. The Ferrari was the most amazing experience I've ever had in a car. WOW. The sound of that engine and the phenomenal transmission in that thing just blew me away. The way it would downshift as we were coming up to a corner hard on the brakes was perfect, it was always in the perfect gear!

I know the ZL1 isn't a Ferrari, but from what I read here the A10 was capable of much of the same predictive shift abilities that the Ferrari exhibited. I'd like to take the ZL1 back to the same canyon road and see how it does.

I will say I was VERY happy to be back in the ZL1 after the event. The ZL1 could easily have kept up with the cars I was driving, or pretty darn close (and even out performed some)...and for 1/3 or 1/4 the cost in some cases!

The cars were:
Ferrari 458 Italia
McLaren 570S
Dodge Viper GT
Porsche Cayman GTS
BMW M4 Comp. Package
Bentley Continental Convertible

You can see my ZL1 in the background!

yea when in auto mode if you quickly smash the gas to the floor and let off, it will go into performance shift mode.

I’ll have to try that! Won’t the car accelerate pretty quickly when you mash the pedal though even if you let off right away? Seems like it would lurch forward pretty hard.

So how do u get into that mode at the drag strip?

I am thinking I want to be in Touring for weight transfer and quicker TB opening, Exhaust in Track mode, but how to get the trans in sport shift mode?

The car doesn't move at all as long as you're traveling around 40 or faster. It will just shift down to the best gear for a hard acceleration from that speed.

It will automatically go into performance shift mode once you push it to the floor. The shift mode doesn't change how the car upshifts. It simply causes it to hold lower gears to be ready to launch and downshift to even lower gears if you slow down. So at the strip, the only time you notice the difference is when you let off and get on the brakes. It starts downshifting to help you slow down, and be ready to take back off if you weren't at a dragstrip.

Performance Shift Mode is only active in Sport or Track. So if you run in Tour you won't see it.

I'm positive unless they changed something for 18. It even says it right in the high performance manual:
"Performance Shifting
While driving in Sport Mode and Track Mode, if Tap Shift has not been activated, the transmission determines when the vehicle is being driven in a competitive manner. The transmission may remain in a gear longer than it would in the normal driving mode based on throttle input and vehicle lateral acceleration. If there is a rapid reduction in throttle from a heavy throttle position at high rpm, the transmission will maintain the current gear up to near redline rpm. While braking, the transmission will automatically downshift to the next lower gear keeping engine speed above approximately 3000 rpm.
If the vehicle is then driven for a short time at a steady speed, and without high cornering loads, the transmission will upshift one gear at a time, until 10 (tenth) gear. After shifting to 10 (tenth) gear, or coming to a complete stop, the transmission will return to normal Sport Mode shifting."

FYI, I can confirm that the car activates Performance Shift Mode by tapping the go pedal to the floor then releasing while in SPORT/TRACK mode (didn't do it in Tour for me). Just gave it a try while I was out getting lunch...worked perfect the 3 times I tried it!

It was great fun using it too!
