m6 inconsistant shift feeling.
how does everyone else 6 speed feel? i've noticed mine sometime is nice and smooth, other times its rough and feels like its grinding or clunky.
almost hit 6k miles on my 2017 ss now and at first i just figured its new, needs some break in miles but figured it would of cleared up by now. i've tried changing how i drive, shift slower, shift faster but nothing seems to change the way it feels. of course its worse when its cold... i've owned many sticks in the past and still have a 1994 z28 so i'm not new to this.

My m6 consistently feels the same to me, overall quite smooth.
I’ve owned several manuals as well and this one is one of my favorites, especially with the auto rev match enabled.

Sounds like the difference you feel is nice and hot vs warm?
I switched over to royal purple during my last fluid change and did feel things get a bit smoother. The warmer the car gets the more chatter you'll notice when you don't feed the beast enough throttle.

i do notice it more when i shift at a lower rpm. but still does it 3k and up randomly.
id say about 50% of the time it feels fine,vs shift clunky. |

I try to bring my M6 up to 2500-3000rpm before shifting each time. I have noticed that when the transmission is cold, it has a clunkier shift. Once it is warmed up, it's always smooth.

I only have the V6 but notice this as well. As you said, sometimes it feels really smooth and then others very notchy (doubt that's an actual word). I'm at 21k miles. To me it's not temp related. I can be driving the car for 2 hours and it feels the same way. Others can be a quick drive around the corner and it's smooth as butter. I chalk it up to weird things I've accepted about the car. Like the rear-end groan, wind noise, random pulling to one side (not road tracking related) and Apple Car Play issues. I was convinced one day that I needed to bring the car in to have the transmission looked at. The next day it was back to normal. I know that doesn't provide any real answers but rest assured, you are not alone.

The trans appears to need some break-in miles before the syncros work well. That said, the factory trans fluid is terrible when it's not-warm. I swapped in AMSoil syncromesh fluid and it was immediately a huge improvement in syncro engagement smoothness. Highly recommended.

It seems to be normal behavior from the transmission. A lot of people, including myself, have noticed that switching to Royal Purple fluid helps A LOT, but sometimes that clunky feeling is there especially at the lower RPM's. Change your trans fluid, it's probably the best mod for under $100 you can do to the car!

+1 more for the switch to Royal Purple (you want the Synchromesh version).
I got disappointed when my SS 6spd got a little clunky when it got cooler last year and made the switch. Saw an immediate improvement, but it still works best after warming up. Edit: I looked around and it appears RP has decided to now call this product "Synchromax". Sorry for any confusion. Last edited by Ventmaster; 10-23-2017 at 02:17 PM. |

Yes- it's good to have an issue on record!
Here's the best "how to" I found for tips and specifics. Be sure to read all the way thru for torque specs and filling procedures. And have fun! http://www.camaro6.com/forums/showth...s+fluid+change

+1 for making sure the tranny is warm before judging shifting feel.
+1 again for changing tranny fluid. I don't have the EXACT same tranny as you SS guys but I noticed my tranny fluid was pretty dark when I drained it at 12k miles. I changed it again at 20k and it was still cherry red. maybe theres a bit of particulate contamination from break in. |
