Too Loud

Not sure if this should be in the Autocross or General section or not.

At the stadium we autocross at there is a 92db at 50' max noise limit. This is measured at every event and where a car is on throttle.

Yesterday my car blew sound with a 94.x db. I was in Track mode. My three options were to:

A: Put it in Tour mode.
B: Enter settings and put the exhaust in Tour/quiet mode while staying in Track, but was told that I shouldn't be doing high performance driving with the exhaust in that mode.
C: Lift at the sound meter position.

I went with option C.

Anywho, does anyone know of a way to make the exhaust a little quieter without doing damage to the exhaust or lifting?

You have 100% bone stock exhaust? Cats, headers, secondary cats and mufflers?

If so, then do not mess with your exhaust. Unless you're going to be tracking there every day or something. I wouldn't worry about one track. Furthermore though I highly doubt a bone stock car will break rules. Again, do not mess with your car because of one track.

I also don't think running in health/tour/quiet will hurt your car, even when tracking.

Note:

Even if you forced it to stealth mode it will open up fully under moderate/heavily loaded conditions.

I have had no issues with sound dba at a variety of autox venues and I have been autox’ing the ZL1 all season (but it is stock). It may be a fluke given where they were taking the readings. I would talk to one of the sound people to see if all the cars were reading high or try a different event. I would definitely not modify the car to make it more quiet.

I would definitely lift in your situation. I think you give away way to much not being in track with all interventions off time wise on the rest of the course and tour at full throttle is not exactly quiet either.

Yes, sorry about not mentioning that, I have bone stock everything.

For the "don't worry about this track" people. It's the stadium parking lot and there are no other venues within at least 100 miles that autocross.

I think stealth mode can be checked and the baffles never open and should meet the 92db max. Then, proceed to select track mode for suspension, steering or PTM.

And here I am wishing mine was louder, but I really don't want to do anything more than an axle-back.

The ZL1 did score the highest decibel rating at the Lightning Lap this year I believe.

Didn’t the GT350 beat the ZL1 in the motortrend ignition episode as a better car because it had a louder exhaust?
