SCCA Autocross and 1LE Tires
Has anyone that is/planning-on competing in SCCA autocross found a good set of nationals legal tires for the 1LE? I have looked some and either tire is too narrow, is for an 18" rim, or just not a competitive tire (i.e. all season).
The SCCA Match Tour rolls through town and I'd like to compete in some legal tires. Maybe even get to Lincoln, but I doubt that. |

Hello Tim ....... your question might be better served in the autocross/rr section as there are more SCCA guys chatting in there
I would offer my advice but I'm better versed in F-stock :( Best of luck ! |

We can run the 295/30/20 RE-71R square on the stock rims.
If you take advantage of the +1/-1 rule and downsize to 19x10/19x11 you can run the 305 RE-71Rs. I'd wait a couple of months to buy tires though - BFG said they were moving the big tires to the 1.5 carcass and adding some bigger diameters, and in time for next year. That will give us more options for sure. |

Like Chris said if you want to be competitive at a National level the only tire is the RE-71r

I appreciate it, but the reason I put it in the ZL1 forum is because that's what I have and I knew I would get answers like Chris V gave which is good for SS 1LE but maybe not for ZL1 1LE. I do thank Chris for his answer though. I dunno, maybe the 305 71R is still best for ZL1 1LE. |

Interesting, I don't think an 18" rim will fit in the front (Caliper looks like it's almost touching the 19's). Anyone know for sure? |

That would be legal for CAM-C, but not for Street Class. |

I think you will have to get them custom spec'd to fit around the calipers, but they will definitely work!

I have the standard ZL1 but run 19” 285 RE71R’s up front and 19” 305’s in back for AutoX. Slightly different aspect ratios given what Bridgestone provides. I saved 10lbs per wheel/tire combo per side. With the 1LE, you will not save as much unsprung weight but that combo should provide great grip especially with the additional camber that you can get with your car verses mine.

Winner's Woes? Naaa.
Hi, Tim!
Tirerack has now Bridgestone RE-11s in 305 & 325 19s (200TW). I think at this time, the RE-71 305 19s square on stock rims might still be the best overall, if not the biggest footprint in the back. Changing wheels, especially custom sizes, can bring big problem$$$. Might see all kinds of better tire/wheel combos before the Tour comes around next year, though..... Don't kill the messenger, but you could get buried in Super Street next year, also. Personally, I'd be happy to see you stay where you are. See ya Sunday!! John |
