You cant put two Jerry cans full of electric in your Tesla's trunk.
no but eventually there will be charge boxes... hell they are already up to something like 50k mAh power banks that can jump start your car.. The future is pretty obvious.

Absolutely true. Coal fired power plants emit the same or more CO2 when charging a car, as a gas burning car.

Solar is getting cheaper daily.

Get control away from greedy power companies (Yes, you FPL) who demand pollution and money, and we'll have a chance at near-zero emissions.

I hear that.

Solar panels on our homes could alleviate some of the evacuation needs.

Won't stop storm surge though.

My generator saved me from Irma, and I'm getting a big-ass Generac whole house one.

.
Correct. The new GM LT7 is an electric motor assisted V8 engine. Coming sorta soon.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'll say it again - Get 'em while you can - this is the pinnacle of the gasoline engine - right now.

I hope they go electric for many reasons. One is that my Camaro will be even more of a collectors car. Another is how quick electric cars can be. The fastest car at the Nurburgring is electric .They handle better due to battery placement. They also pollute less. Who doesn't like to breath clean air? Less money to countries that buy Lambos with our money. No more standing in Gas stations for most people. You get home and plug it in. Yeah, yeah, sound of V8, blah, blah. The pluses of a V8 are no where near the pluses of electric. Lets evolve.

I hope they start selling that many electric cars. It will assure decades of cheap gasoline! If demand goes down, so does price. Bring on the electrics!

What happens after a few years when the battery packs need replacing? From what I've read about it , they can be extremely expensive to replace in the cars we have out now.

I can see electrically assisted ICE's (like the current hybrids) coming to the Camaro lineup, but full electric will take a long time to find general public acceptance.

I think a lot of people are overlooking the fact that technology will follow the demands of the people or the need put forth. If you’re basing your judgement of electric vehicle viability upon the current technology when GM is stating that it’ll go into full production on this rollout in 2023, you’re a bit misguided.

Many advancements can and should be made in this technology to make it far more viable for everyday usage. While I for one will still yearn for a V8 powered American vehicle, all we can hope is that they will not ban vehicles with internal combustion engines like they are doing in other countries.

When are the tree hugging hippies and climate goons going to admit that electric cars are actually powered by coal?

This!

As you mentioned, many countries like France are passing legislation now making new combustion engine sales illegal in the not so distant future. It will be very helpful if we realize that America is not the center of the world anymore(hard for most I know). For GM and all other US Manufacturers to stay alive, they will have to maintain a global presence. America is far behind the game now, we will have to catch up or get left in the dark........literally.

That will change too, and is currently a VERY small piece of the energy structure. Administrations change, just because the current one wants to keep people in caves mining for coal(when they don't want to) doesn't mean that will always be the case. Look to the world and for better examples, there are plenty of countries doing much better at clean energy production.

I am older than most here and I did not need a V8 but I wanted that sound. I did not even need a new car but when I heard that exhaust sound I knew I was going to buy it. I know electric will have instant torque but in my case not what I bought the car for. It is also the reason I bought my Harley and not a Yamaha. When you buy this type of car you want the visceral experience.

I'm young. But i'll be damned if i was to change to electric as we move away from combustion engines. I might have to settle with an everyday electric car in the future, but i will maintain a garage full of gas powered cars and motorcycles. No electric car, no matter how fast or how efficient it is will keep me away from a loud combustion engine with a manual transmission.

I wouldnt say it is a farce, but if you eliminate 100 million vehicles in the USA alone from the roads that burn fuel and replace them with electric vehicles then you will make a huge dent in the emissions pollution that we currently produce.

That 100 million cars is based on the USA population being around 250 million people.

The cascade effect as this movement goes across the USA and Globally will be huge in reduction of emission pollution.
