Racing Seats for ZL1
I am road course tracking my car more and more. It's almost being used for nothing but that. Any ideas on compatible Sparco etc..
Seats that would work well. Thinking I would like to go with 5 point harness. Not sure if that would require roll cage... Not sure of the difficulty level to pull out factory seat as well... Just looking for thoughts and any feedback... Thanks! |

I was thinking sparco
http://www.sparcousa.com/catalog/vehicle/seats you would need to use a harness bar if you do not have a roll bar or roll cage.

For a seat I would go with Racetech. https://racetech-usa.com/shop/
Yes... you will need a harness bar at minimum. |

I'd like to purchase anyone's stock ZL1 Recaro seats that decides to go with full-fledged racing seats.
Also, not sure if this helps, but there was one other person that I know of that changed over to a more aggressive racing seat. Here's what they went with: Recaro Profi Race Seats from Stable Energies with Brey Krause Sliders, Adaptors and Planted Seat Mounts. Hope that helps

The fact that Chevy ditched the pass through's on the 6th gen Recaro seats blows my mind, I'm literally down grading Recaros going from my 5th gen 1LE to the 6th gen ZL1 1LE, pretty crappy on GM's part on a "track car".

IMO, the OEM seat with the shoulder strap pass-throughs are inviting someone to improperly mount racing harnesses. Those seats are NOT designed for the use of 5/6 point harnesses, as there's no provision for the anti-submarine strap. Routing this strap in front of the seat is improper, unsafe, and is not allowed by most track sanctions. This only leaves a 4-pt option, which I'm only aware of one manufacturer that makes a version that's allowed by SOME sanctions (Schroth).

Sparco, Cobra, OMP, Recaro, Racetech, are all good options but if you want the most out of a race seat you will want to sit in it to make sure it fits you the way you want. If you have a shop that sells them within a couple of hours drive, it is worth the ride to test what they have. If you have no local shops to test seats, try out anyone's seats that will let you sit in there car at the track. Once you find one you like, get the seat measurements online, and measure to make sure it will fit in the car. The Camaro is a little tight with some of the wide/XL seats. The flair out of the sides at the shoulders will sometimes hit the door. Installing is fairly simple, good luck.

Cobra Evolution is a good halo seat for the street if you ever decide to go that route. They have holes in the sides of the halo you can see through.
