E85 Flexfuel sensor
When using the E85 Flexfuel sensor and no tune. Will the car benefit with having the higher octane as we only have 91 octane on the west coast

Higher octane results in hp gains.
91 vs. what? E85? |

You will still need someone to activate the sensor in the stock tune. So even doing that will void the warranty. At that point just go ahead and do a full tune IMO.

Once it's pinned to the ecu, i would think it should be able to read the octane of what your putting into the car. Will you see a benefit? Probably not, the ecu would maybe adjust SLIGHTLY for the added octane but I doubt it's something you'd notice. Like others have said, just tune it for the e85, that way you'll really feel the gains.

The flex fuel sensor wont do anything without a tune, and the car needs to be tuned on E85, its not just plug and play. And to go full E85 you will need a low side pump. Dave over DSXtuning has a awesome system and package going for this right now. Without the low side pump you will only be able to get about E40-E50 before you aren't keeping the fuel pressure high enough.

I have the golden ticket for low sides.
![]() The sensor won't do anything until the ECM is reflashed and the function activated. FWIW, the sensor reads alcohol content which is not necessarily the same as octane. |

So Dave with the flex fuel sensor + low side fuel system & HP tuner with a tune & Dyno from a tuner can you run E85 ? Or do you still need cam , high side etc ?

17 ZL1 what a car....

Ok, silly question, I keep seeing that E85 has to be activated in the ECU? Are you guys saying that GM has all the fuel tables for E85 installed in the ECU and they just have to be activated or do the tuners do that? Either way just curious as to how it works...I will get a tune for sure with any fuel change/setup.

"tables" are absolutely there however they are far from optimally tuned. to get the most out of going e85, you'll absolutely want a tuner to dial them in for performance
