what brand ceramic coating to get
Ive been looking at ceramic coating my car for a few months, but there are a ton of different brands. Does anyone know the best one to get or are they all pretty much equal? Also is it beneficial to do more than one coat?

My car is fully coated with Modesta BC-05 1 coat. I then had the hood and bumper Xpel'd and on top of the film I've got Gyeon Mohs Quartz Coating, 1 coat.
They both bead water very similar (very well). I had the impression Modesta has a deeper gloss but the Xpel underneath the Mohs might give the wrong impression. Long time durability, I don't know yet, only had the car for 3 months but for now they still act the same as when just applied even on the windshield. From what the dealer said Modesta will outlast the Mohs. I only did it for the easy of washing. It doesn't help against road rash (hence the Xpel after the Modesta) Not much info but I hope it helps you a little bit. Nick |

I have tried 8 different coatings. The one that has lasted the longest was the most expensive.
http://www.chemicalguys.com/Carbon_F...s_p/wac227.htm Optimum Gloss Coat is 2nd.

Kirkh, did you apply it yourself or have it done? I was looking at several different ones. Chemical guys, adams, blackfire, and a few others. All are pretty similar in price for the full kit and all have good reviews.

As much as some people diss Chemical Guys, their Carbon Flex trim coating is the best I have tried, especially the coating for trim. I wish I had coated all my trim when I first got it. Instead I only did the grille, becasue I thought I would test it out first. In the mean time, my window cowl faded. Optimum is very good too.

If your planning on doing it yourself, go with Optimum Gloss Coat. Good durability and very easy to apply, it actually self levels, significantly reducing the chances of leaving high spots.

I went with the CQuartz Finest. However, I had it done professionally by a Detailer. AMAZING results.......

Wow! I'm no expert, and am learning every day, but I have never seen a coating make this claim: (From Chemical Guys Web site) "Carbon Flex C9 is the next level of car care protective coatings. Lower end coatings could scratch and swirl, then highlight defects because they are clear. Carbon Flex C9 uses flexible protection technology that helps reject scratches from the surface of the coating. As the coating heats and cools from direct sunlight and shade, the polymer protection chains expand and contract to reshape itself and actually self-repair minor swirls and scratches that build up on the coating surface. Carbon Flex C9 absorbs damage and blocks the elements so your paint doesn’t have to. Coating paintwork, metal, plastic, and glass with Carbon Flex C9 is like adding a layer of clear armor against UV sunlight, pollution, water spots, bird droppings, swirls, scratches, and more. The innovative carbon coating is engineered to block harmful UV solar rays. Vehicles coated with Carbon Flex C9 resist fading, discoloration, and oxidation. The durable coating ensures strong protection through spring, summer, fall, and winter. Protect, shine, and preserve exterior surfaces to prevent fading, discoloration, scratching, and spotting with Carbon Flex C9 Protective Coating. |

So if I'm understanding this correctly you cannot put any ceramic coating on any part of the car that has xpel or any other clear bra?

No… You certainly can put a ceramic on expel. Lots of people do it. The thing you want to watch is you don’t want a detailer charging you the same amount of money as if he’s putting it on paint. Because paint needs to be prepped; lots of polishing and getting ready for the ceramic. You don’t polish expel you just put it on after wiping it down with alcohol, so there’s a lot less labor involved.
