Power Mod W/ Warranty

I want to do some power mods for my car but I really don't want to lose my warranty. I live in SOCAL where I cant even install a GM Cold air intake for carb reasons. Are there any workarounds I can do? I really really want to do headers but I can't get them in without voiding my warranty.... Right now all I have is a custom exhaust with an H-PIPE + Flowmaster mufflers...

In this grand state of Cali, you really can't do SHIT.

You have to worry about two things, the dealer and the State ref. So maybe you say screw it and void your warranty with headers, tune, exhaust.. now you have to worry about the damn cops that can site you to a state ref. The ONLY mod that you can do legally here is the MSD Atomic intake which is carb approved.

The rest, you're screwed if you're cited and screwed with smog. I got cited to a state ref in my rice rocket Integra almost 20 years ago and had to swap back to stock to pass... Wasn't fun at all.

I already got pulled over, motorcycle cops will go behind me, rubber necking, etc.. Such bullshit here and I'll be leaving this shit hole state soon.

Edited.. but yeah, ported IM/TB is great with the stock air box.

As mentioned, ported IM/TB from Pray performance is a good way to pick up 18-20whp across the rpm range.

wouldn't you need a tune to get the performance out of that?

Only do mods that you are willing to swap back to the stock parts if in need of warranty service (CAI, TB, exhaust for example). No tuning. Also consider added towing costs as if you break down, you will need it towed home first (or to a speed shop), to swap parts back to stock....then tow to dealer.

^^^^ This ^^^^
Plus you you not get the full benefit of those parts without a tune. I've seen multiple times on here where you actually lose power with bolt-ons without a tune.

Truth of the matter is GM kinda has you by the nuts with this car due to a great factory tune and components. You basically do nothing or your all in and void the warranty. Also the reliability of these motors and transmissions isn't exactly 'bullet-proof'

For me I'm just sticking with the Rotofab CAI until I decide if I really wanna mess with it.

North Carolina is really nice. All same geographical crap Cali has minus the desert. You could sell a condo in Cali and live like a king where I am at. Just sayin.

Raleigh and the RTP is 30 minutes away. I have 5 tracks within an hour. At least 5 dyno's within 45 minutes. 5 or so major shops (if you didn't want to go with me) within an hour. In my area it is only OBDII so there basically isn't anything I can't do to a car. I can shoot six deer in my back yard a year. The beach or mountains are only 2.5hrs away. Plenty of lakes and rivers. Land is 3K an acre. Shoot, you can get a 5,000sqft house on the lake down the street in a gated community for $400K.

I am also a third generation native Cali boy from just south of SF so yes, I do know about California.

Very nice!! I'm planning for it soon since Cali is horrible with stuff like this..

I had to do a U-turn a few months ago since they are doing random smog checks in Manhattan Beach, Anaheim, etc.. I have an exhaust and that will easily go over the 95 decibel limit even in tour/stealth. And I also can't pop the hood because I have very dangerous weapon.. a cold air intake :/

doesn't help that my car is red! Done with this damn state and their outrageous prices unless you live in the boondocs SMH
