I have a black ZL1. It might see 500-750 mi per year. It will never be driven in a the rain or snow. I have used ceramic coatings before. I apply it myself. I'm a big fan for a daily driven car.

Before ceramic coatings were out I used Ultima Paint Guard Plus which is a polymer sealant. Better protection/longevity than a wax but not nearly as good as ceramic.

Wax... well it's wax. Doesn't last long but probably provides the greatest depth and shine for black paint.

My question... for a car that's kept in the garage most of its life should I do the ceramic. The drawback to ceramic is that the car is black and if I need to do paint correction then I have to polish the ceramic coating off. I found the less you screw with black the better it looks. So a major polishing job is not desireable.

UPGP or wax will allow for minor paint correction to the paint when needed.

So which should it be?

Polish with Carpro Essence, then apply Carpro Reload, it is a Silica base sealant, basically like a ceramic coating, just not as hard as ceramic, but simple to apply, no correcting needed. I use it and it is awesome, my car is garage kept, never sees rain, not a daily driver per say, but I do drive it usually a few days a week.

Also maybe look into Essence+ too, it doesnt have the abrasives that regular essence has....if your paint is already pristine and based off your "less is more" statement (which I totally agree with BTW). Still top with reload.

Yup, if you don't I want to do a ceramic, essence /reload is the hot ticket right now.

I also recommend the Carpro Essence/Reload combo. As easy to apply as a sealant, but reports are that it lasts longer. Essence can correct minor surface imperfections like swirls and Reload is the spray top coating. You can always use Essence again and apply their ceramic coating if you want more durability, but for a garage-kept car that doesn't see rain it should work well.
