I finally had a chance to test the race slicks (295/305) this past weekend.

video below is taken from the last event at the ORP event
car was definitely faster with the race slicks than the NT01 (ran NT01 in the morning session) but didn't give confidence. I probably got a bad set of rear tires, oh well.

I ended up improving my PB on a much warmer day. If the NT01s were as light as these race slicks, results would be different for sure.

and some footage from ORP with friend's Mavic Pro

Glam, I've been running the ST43s on my Gen5 1LE, using the GM ZL1 rotors. They are cracked just as your OEM rotors have. Do you think the ST43s are contributing to the cracking? My track day buds and I where debating this. Since they are no doubt a super durable pad with great stopping power, are the rotors the component that sees the abuse. They generate higher peak temps in a shorter time which stresses the rotor more?

Here's a few pics. rotors and pads have 6 track days on them since last September which breaks down to about (14) 20 minute sessions and (6) 12 minute sessions. 5000 street miles. I was going to go to one more event on Wednesday then change them out during the winter, I did buy the DBA T3 5000 rings.

not necessarily, my friend has the same exact calipers, pad size and rotor size (C7 Z06 brakes) on his C7 Z51 track car and he's been using ST43 (or ST47/ST45s) his rotors are in better shape than ours because our cars are considerably heavier than the Vettes. I've looked at the picture of your rotors and it seems like there is still some life on them I wouldn't worry about the hairline cracks until they reach to the edge of the rotors or they become very deep.

As I understand, it's possible to get about 8-10 track days out of OEM rotors and maybe a bit more with the DBA 5000s which is not too bad considering the weight of our cars

In the apex wheels you have, if I got the 19x10 +25 in the front instead of the 10.5 you have, there shouldn't be any rub issues should there or need for spacer? And ran say 285/305 re71s basically stock size

Someone got those wheels and mentioned that it's a tight fit and will possibly require a spacer for track alignment.

If you don't want any spacer, I think you can try doing what I did. I had my mechanic to grind the strut tabs a little bit to gain some extra clearance ( I also use 5mm spacer since I have wider wheels) . For the street, I think it should be fine

Take a look at this thread post #27 and #28

Awesome. Thanks for the info. Don't mind to grind a lil bit if that's all.

Sure. There are some pictures here. I've done about 8-9 events and so far so good:

What are your thoughts on what causes the cracking?

The heat, weight and the combination of those two :/

I think it's not too bad for a car like this but you may consider getting some brake ducts for your Gen 5. I believe there was some good aftermarket one that X25 used on his Z28 Conversion 1LE. IIRC

Brian from Apex wheels contacted with me. He mentioned that he saw my build thread here on this forum and asked if I'd be interested being featured on their APEX Blog since they feature customer builds on their website.

Here's a small interview/feature about my SS 1LE if you're interested :

I do have the Quantum brake ducts, lol. And the Z/28 ones that dump into the wheelhouse. I've never had a fade or fluid issue and my piston dust seals look brand new. I do have the non-CCM ZO6 calipers that have the vented pistons, I'm sure that is helping the dust seals look good. At the same time, because of the vented pistons, there may be more heat that stays in the pad and rotor.

I see. He also mentioned that rotor life on his 1LE wasn't as good as the Vette (no surprise there I think). Like I said, I think it looks normal after 6 events and it seems like there is still some life on those . For the reference, my OEM rotors looked like they have a bit deeper and longer cracks than yours. I decided to retire them for street use with OEM pads.

The other option might be going with even bigger BBK (Stoptech kit maybe) but I am not sure if it's worth the efforts or the cost
