I have zero regrets. Having driven a number of manual cars I understand both sides of the discussion. People talk about having control, the feeling of involvement and the cars responsiveness to driver input when selecting gears manually. The thrill or fun factor.
The A10 is a wonderful compilation of technology that must be driven to truly understand its amazing capabilities. I've put roughly 3300 miles on it in a variety of driving conditions at it has yet to disappoint. I have been thoroughly surprised with its versatility. This debate will likely never cease as there is no answer to what is best. It's what you want. That in and of itself is subjective. Like the color of my car, nobody else has to like it but me. |

A10 was the main reason I bought this car. I know the stick is more traditional but this trans really is sweet! So easy to drive fast. And it sounds like a F1 car going through the gears

Had two a8's and liked them initially. My only complaint was the delay using the paddles. I see that's been as close to fixed as GM is gonna get for now without using a dct, but I always found myself using the paddles anyway for some form of engagement, no matter how muted it was. I originally got the two autos for drag racing but the last few years we've been plagued with mild, wet winters and it seems like any day where the DA was at least close to 0, (forget any -DA) it was during the week and the tracks were closed. So I don't have the chance to do as much track racing as I hoped, coupled with the fact that it's a weekend toy for me, I chose the m6 this go round.

Is there any hope for us M6 people who would like to get off the pad with a 60'< 3 seconds?

The reason it doesn't bother me as much as it would have years ago is that it is now pointless to run a manual transmission car against any modern auto stoplight to stoplight. It started with the AWD WRX STI and EVOs. Then the GTR, which was the big game changer...put my grandmother in the driver's seat and show her how to activate launch control and the exact same acceleration times result EVERY TIME. Now it's the Tesla ludicrous or whatever they call it that can't be beat to 60. The guys who own these cars know their strengths and shut it down before you run them down. (Yeah, you beat me...). Heck, you have more vehicles on the road than you can imagine that will potentially outrun you to 50 unless your launch is near perfect with a manual, bog or not. The days of your driving skill being a major factor in a race is now GONE. For me personally, takes all the fun out of it. When the outcome is known prior to the event, it just seems pointless. I guess it comes down to the old "If you can't beat 'em, join 'em" for most of us, but I continue to resist. |

The A10 is possibly the best transmission I have driven.

STAY IN IT, I personally don't care if its as fast as the A10, "do not want an A10" as great a trans it is.
Like you, I want this car to launch as it should, as if I'd need a neckbrace! . Enjoy the holiday buddy. |

Cheers to GM on an awesome transmission, just as the A8...

Went over 500 miles the other day on my A10. After a Honda with motorbike pipes rev'd his engine I thought I would open it up. Took it easy off the line and gave up a wheel before I jumped on it. All I could say after that is "hol^ Sh&t".
The shifts were clean, no abruptness, and I could feel the back end slip a little before the rubber bit with each gear. Unless you're a pro I don't see how a human could shift as fast, and as smooth, and keep the power down with an M. I'm sure there are some out there who can keep the M planted but for the layman (including myself here) the A10 is other worldly. I do have quite a bit of experience with turbos and manual trannies (and I really appreciate "driver involvement"), but the low end power the S/C throws down will take some getting used to. The straight pull as it runs through the gears is hands down AWESOME. I may be biased though....
