Don't want this to become another "break in" thread, but doesn't the manual state "recommended" break in procedures?
And I think we've already covered OnStar is not sending unmasked data?

Do not exceed 4000 engine rpm. . Avoid driving at any one constant speed, fast or slow. . Do not drive above 129 km/h (80 mph). . Avoid downshifting to brake or slow the vehicle when the engine speed will exceed 4,000 rpm. . Do not let the engine labor. Never lug the engine in high gear at low speeds. With a manual transmission, shift to the next lower gear. This rule applies at all times, not just during the break-in period. . Do not participate in racing events, sport driving schools, or similar activities during this break-in period. Do not seems pretty definite to me.

This is an interesting thread. I think if GM can flag your car, you should have a right to check and find out why.
If this guy got red flagged for running at the front of HPDE's then a lot of us will have the same concern. My car is bone stock. So is OP's. Wait...I take that back, I have BIG numbers on my door so it MUST be modified, right? Still have not seen one car being denied warranty for track related activities.

Probably the dealer plates, someone saw them and at a track event? I think Al O. said you must complete the break in before taking it to the track.

The man behind it? Non other than Al Oppenheiser, the Camaro ZL1's chief engineer, a diehard automotive wizard who gives credence to the "gearhead" appellation. "If you're not modifying your car and you take your production car to a track day and you have an issue with one of your parts, it's covered under warranty," he recently told Motor Authority. "We know when somebody changes their ECM calibration and we know if they changed to a cold-air intake, we can tell all that. But driving it as you break it in from the dealership, if you have a half-shaft or whatever, it's covered."

http://blog.caranddriver.com/why-yes...o-ss-grenaded/
We called GM for confirmation of his statements and to ask just how far that coverage extends. After some slight delays, Chevrolet basically confirmed his comments, with a few specific clarifications. First and foremost, “track day” means exactly that. According to Chevrolet, ‘”If you enter your car in a race or any type of competition event, that constitutes racing, and then it becomes an entirely different matter.” Furthermore, “Initial break-in procedures should be complete, and that includes brake burnishing.” The warranty covers the entire powertrain, and the maker confirmed that it includes the SS, ZL1, and 1LE with both V-6 and V-8 engines. We assume it will include the upcoming new Z/28.

It took longer than expected to get my car so I had to work to get the break in done for the first event. Lots of alternate longer fun routes to get the mileage up. I arrived at the track with 1520 miles. Gunned it hard first time on the freeway at 1500 miles on the way there...

You said you still had dealer plates for the first two events? Maybe someone from the dealer or someone from GM saw the dealer plates and thought brand new and not enough time for a break in.

Yes it does. If the Z06 overheating problem became a class action suit. Think GM wants to void a warranty because some buyer pulled out in front of one, two even 3 people and hit 4900 rpm blending into traffic in the first 1500 miles and wants to void the warranty ? Much overreaction in this tread |
