I have to remove TCM for 17 models?

So i will be installing headers in the next few weeks. So for me to get my car tuned for the headers I would need to remove my TCM and send it to HPTuners to get it unlocked.

Is there anyway around this To just get a simple tune for my headers?

(I don't no much about tuning so bare with me)
I plan to go full bolt on-E85 so i am guessing i will need to send it off eventually correct?

You only have to send the tcu out if you want the transmission tuned. Any tuner can still tune your ecu (yes 2017's have to be unlocked but they don't need to send your ecu out only your tcu) personally if I had an auto unless the car was boosted or running nitrous I wouldn't bother tuning the tcu.

About half of the gains are in the TCM tune as well. If you are going to do it then do it right is my mindset.

Half the power gains are in the Transmission Control Module? How so?

I thought I read at a certain point the tcm starts limiting the power if it goes over a limit, and that was the reason it needed to be tuned as well?

Half of the performance gains. There is TM on both sides of the tune, the ECM and TCM. Also lots of improvements can be made on the TCM side, shift timing and shift pressure alone are two of them.

I'd like to see someone with a 17' and A8 chime in here that gained power on the dyno with a TCM tune.

Talking 10.95 @ 124MPH. Bolt-On NA All Motor
Well....Who said a NA Bolt On 6th Gen Camaro could not go 10s?!

New Personal Best 10.95 @ 124mph!!

Mods: Bo White Ported MSD Intake Manifold and Ported Throttle Body/Rotofab Cold Air Intake/Cat Delete Pipes/e85/drag setup

Stock gears, Stock converter, stock exhaust except for cat deletes.
Raceweight: 3830lbs

S/O Ryan Stevens (GPI) on the badass remote base tune. I kept tweaking all day and I got it done!!

Also thanks to Brett (Pray) for giving me some pointers the other day and encouraging me to send my TCM in to be unlocked!! LOL

Best pass before TCM unlock and actually able to tune it was 11.23 @ 123mph a cpl weeks ago, similar weather, same track, and same prep. Look at this result

That is rather impressive. I wonder if it's actually making more HP or if the transmission is just doing a better job.

Not really a power gain... it's simply Torque management and it is pulling timing which = power on the shifts. The A8 shifts a lot so there is up to 3 tenths reduction in the 1/4 by removing the TM.

The only thing to do in the Computer is disable AFM if sticking with pump gas...the timing and fuel curve is pretty dialed from the factory.

Now if going E85. Flex fuel sensor and tune is worth 25whp.
