Pricing does not go up the longer you wait... The dealership pushes the extended warranty sale as the seller receives a commission from each policy sold...

I find car extended warranties are like most extended warranties, bs.
Check the fine print of whatever it is you're looking to buy. The ones my dealer was trying to peddle (national - accepted at any gm dealer) do not cover damage caused by fluid leaks. So it will cover your replacement gasket cost, but not the cost of any damage the fluid that leaked by that gasket did to the rest of your engine/trans. What's likely to happen post-warranty? Fluid leaks I would suspect, since that's the primary thing i've ever had to deal with when i owned used camaro's prior to this one. So it doesn't cover the most common and potentially very expensive type of powertrain problem. gtfo with that. |

I usually don't go for them either. What did get me to bite though was all the electronics that the car has. So I figured one bad computer module issue would likely cost as much as a warranty extension over time. My wife's Denali has had some issues that would have been more costly that this and they were electronic related. Piece of mind, I got it and no looking back at this point. I think it was about $1800 for eight years.

Don't buy an extended warranty. They're a rip-off.
https://www.consumerreports.org/exte...ensive-gamble/ But, just think about it logically. Who is selling you an "extended warranty"? A company. And, not a "charity" or even "non-profit" company, but a "for-profit" company. So, what does that company want to do? Make money. How do all companies make money? By selling something for more money than what it costs them. In this case, that means they sell you a policy that costs more than they will pay for the repairs. This means that you will pay less for the repairs on your own (without a warranty) than you will pay in premiums to the warranty company. "But, Trans Ram, what happens if my car needs repairs?!! I'll be out thousands of dollars!!" Not so fast. You're going to be spending $1000-$1500 on that "warranty", right? Well, just put that money in the bank. If you need it for a repair, great - it's right there. If you don't - then you get a nice present when you sell your car! |

If the extended warranty is through GM and your engine blows you will definitely be paying less than without warranty coverage. I bet a new LT1 installed is at least $10k.
I agree 3rd party warranties are a joke however.

yea, but if your engine hydrolocks because coolant leaked out of a head gasket. You'll be paying for all the damage that hydrolocked engine caused to the block, pistons and such. They'll cover the gasket replacement.

I went with one from my credit union. full bumper to bumper 10 year 100k miles (takes over after the factory ones give up). $100 deductable on anything wrong. Can take it to any certified repair facility/garage, not just dealership. only caveat is I have to have repairs approved before work can be done, to be covered, but that's not really an issue.
It's prorated for any use if I decide to void it, with full price being given back if it's before it even kicks in. |

Yes...prices go up the more miles on your car, although it depends on your plans.
If you buy a 5 year warranty right now, it might be the same price as buying a 3 year warranty in 2 years. Keep in mind, all these companies don't EXTEND the factory warranty, they overwrite it. Warranty repairs won't be paid by GM and the service advisers are working with these 3rd party companies for support, so the best thing to do is ask whoever is going to be working on your car for the company the prefer to work with the most.

I purchased the platinum plan 7/70k but so far I'm not impressed. I took my car in because it was shaking when accelerating. It's a known issue with the A8 transmission. I expected to get a rental car since i paid a crap ton of money for the platinum plan. I was told no I don't get a car until they look at and determine "IF" there is a real issue which could take up to 48hrs. Like as if I would take my brand new car in with less than 6k miles on it just because I had nothing better to do! I said but wait a minute I was told that I was to have rental "ANY TIME" when i purchased that platinum plan. The guy looked at me like so what, sorry I can't do anything. It was my first experience with GM service and I was not a happy camper. Could of just been the dealership I was at (same dealership I purchased it from) but I have a feeling I wasted my money.
