It appears that the Hellcat engine is quite a bit more expensive than the LT4. I found it was about $22k vs 13k (Although it is 16k on Chevy's site). I wonder why that is? Is it mainly due to the twin screw supercharger? Or is it maybe that Dodge isn't building as many crate engines as Chevy does thus the cost is much higher? Dodge has produced roughly 30k hellcats and Chevy has produced roughly 30k Z06's. ZL1's and CTSV's production probably make up a small number. So it appears that the amount of these engines stuffed into production cars are quite similar.

So you think they're charging more for the name? Or the demand is higher for the crate engines which allows them to charge more? It would be interesting to know how much these crate engines actually cost the manufactures to build.

I don't have an exact answer, but from everything I have seen, GM crate engines are normally cheaper than similar crate engines from Chrysler or Ford. I don't know why, but that seems to always be the case

I think it has to do with GM sharing more parts across a larger platform. The Hellcat engine is basically only used in two vehicles. As to whether any of those parts, like block, heads, internal parts are shared with other vehicle lines, like trucks and such, I don't know. But GM seems to share a lot of the small block V8 parts bin which probably affords them a better price from outside suppliers and lowers per unit cost on in house items as well.

Agreed. Plus GM is using a very cheap blower as compared to the Hellcat. We get a 1.7 TVS while the HC has a 2.4 twin screw. With just bolt-ons and on the same blower without porting, the HC can see much higher HP/TQ numbers than we can. They already start off over 600 to the wheels with some seeing over 650 to the wheels. I saw one account of a guy hitting 680 at the wheels and other accounts that I heard was that this is possible for those cars. So add up a much better blower, high HP potential, lower production numbers, and the fact that Mopar always seems to be a bit more expensive anyway and there you go.

stupid question but is there any car besides the 6th Gen Camaro and Current Vette that can actually use the LT4 engine since it is a DI motor?
