I had a 2016 Yukon Denali bought back by GM and it was resold with a branded title. Ask the selling dealer what the title will say after you buy the car. A branded title stays with the car forever. Google what the definition of a branded title is, the value is diminished. Good luck.

Yea, I've since read all about it. It sounds like it could potentially be a sh*t show. Moving on...

Yes, that has been discussed at length. I don't know what to do. Most people say, avoid a buyback like the plague.

Why not try to negotiate a great deal with them? You have nothing to lose.
Maybe they might do $52k or $53k which for that low of a mileage car would be a great deal. Just tell them I want it for this price because of diminished future value. This way, if you wanted to sell in the future, it will be compensated by the great deal you can get now.

If it is GM certified, they are supposed to go over it extensively with their inspection and replace anything not passing their inspection.

oh, I didn't see a price mentioned. If it has a warranty and maybe even able to purchase an extended warranty, I would make the best deal you could and get it.

NO WARRANTY, NO DEAL.

I'd see what the difference is to order a 2018 is and attempt to buy a new one, or wait until another used one shows up. If something sounds too good to be true, it probably is and you'd likely loose $$$ if you ever tried to sell it or trade it in. The price they're asking isn't too far from one that isn't a buyback.

Don't do it, you'll have a problem selling it; just save a little more and wait, some used 2017 will show up on market...

I say go for it. I mean look at me. I get all the looks in town now.
It feels so much better than the looks I get in my Daily Driver
Even though I have a 454 bb with a blower sticking out the hood of my Pacer

The car was insured as normal, and I never had any issues with the car related to the reason it was a buyback. I sold it to an individual (highly modified), and I made sure to disclose that it had been a buyback. In my case, the buyer was willing to pay for the mods, so it didn't affect my resale. That being said, I would not pay $57K for a ZL1 that had been bought back.

Classic Chevrolet Grapevine

Two 2018's. one 2017. One Black, one Red, one yellow. $65,744 minus loyalty $-1,500, Bonus -$1,000, try to get a supplier pricing, I am sure someone has a supplier they are not going to use -$1,600. End of the month, GM sales are slow and Classic is the largest Chevrolet dealer in the US. Negotiate another $1,000 out of them and your at the price of the buyback.

You Should Never Ever Ever Purchase A Manufacturer Buyback Vehicle

Try to think of this as the beginning of your quest for the right deal.

My motivation is:

1. You're a forum member, we look out for each other

2. You'll be right on here with the problems the original owner could not get fixed.

3. When you find the real value - it will be stunningly low. They bought it at auction, dirt cheap.

More food for thought:

Quote:
Might this be a good buy?

I would say No. First of all, you are assuming that the vehicle is fixed. Before the car was bought back, the manufacturer was given a last chance repair.

If they had been able to make good on that repair, the lemon law claim would have been defeated.

Do you think manufacturers punt on the last chance so they can buy the car back and THEN make the repair?

Why would they do that? It will cost them just as much to make the repair either way - but by doing it after they have 1) a ticked off customer and 2) a defective vehicle they have to dispose of.

The car has a branded title, you should be paying well below market value for the car, at least 25% for the deal to make sense. YOU ARE BUYING THE LEGAL DEFINITION OF A CAR THAT WAS/IS A LEMON and this status will follow the car for the rest of its life.

While I trade cars a lot, I've always bought on the premise that I would rather there be 10 cars I WISH I had bought than the 1 car I wish I had NOT.

This car has a very dark shadow on it and for me would not pass the muster. When it comes time for you to sell or trade it off down the road, you will have to be explaining to any potential buyer or dealer what the history is and you will forever be on the defensive about it.

'The bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten...'

Like another poster said, toss a few more bucks at a new car with incentives and enjoy the drive.
