OnStar Services

What OnStar services have you decided to keep after your Guidance Trial had ended? It seems as though some of these services are more of a ''nice to have'' than a ''must have''.

I just keep the basic service. Nice to have in case of a emergency. I think it's 212.00 a year

Since I have a cell phone, I keep none of the Onstar stuff. With my cell I have towing, maps, and a way to look up a local dealer if needed.

Can you pay for just the data to retain the hotspot, and remote diagnostics and stuff? or do you need onstar for that?

I like that they can shut down my car, if it gets stolen.

I read somewhere, but can't seem to find it now that for $5/month you can add just the stolen vehicle part of OnStar to the basic OnStar that is standard with the car. Anyone else read this?

They also know when you have a accident. They call you to see if everyone is alright. Nice safety feature

Has anyone else seen the monthly OnStar Smart Driver report? It sends you a ton of information each month such as how many times you had hard accelerations, hard brakings, % of time the car was driven over 80 mph, etc. it will also tell you when the car was started and turned off each time each day.
This came in handy when the car was going through an engine performance upgrade to 850 hp by a shop. I could see every day when they were doing the testing and tuning in Texas while I was home in Indiana!
So just shows you that big brother is REALLY monitoring your every move.

Onstar gets nothing from me. You all should look up the agreement and read it. They watch how you drive. It will some day haunt you. Big brother at its finest. I'd uninstall the entire system if it wasn't so difficult to do.

I want to remove my circuit board too. OnStar is way too obtrusive and their database uses substandard security and could be easily hacked. No server should have control of my car.

I'm not going to use it. It's a second car for me anyway

They allow some services as add on to the basic OnStar. I just have the vehicle recovery which is $5 per month or $50 per year if paid in advance.
