Side note….just looked at those Ford GT specs. Really interesting they went with Pilot Sport Cup 2s and even more interesting they put only 245 width on the front with the big 325's out back.

So I guess you are referring to the fact (there is that word again…lol) that a lot of the Ford GT performance specs are still in the ESTimated category. So I could say point to you. However….the basic recipe for faster lap times is power and grip. You can affect those variables in many ways…lighter weight, more down force, better tires, more hp etc….. You can do it with fancy tech or an old fashioned wing out back and monster motor..see the ACR, ZL1 1LE, the incoming Corvette ZR1 and the new king of the ring McClaren as of today? I think?

I say all that because the GT is a mid engine, carbon fiber monocoque that is going to have superior balance and rigidity, it's lighter by nearly 1k pounds and has near equal power albeit less torque. Physics are hard to deny in this case and are heavily in favor of the GT. Don't get me wrong I love me some Zl1. It's an impressive car….and in my mind for the price point its the more impressive car when you match dollars to performance. But physically the GT will be and just is plain faster. Even if you go with the argument that the perf numbers are still estimated they are not even close.

Here are the Car and Driver estimates.

CURB WEIGHT (C/D EST): 3250 lb

PERFORMANCE (C/D EST):
Zero to 60 mph: 2.9 sec
Zero to 100 mph: 5.7 sec
Standing ¼-mile: 10.6 sec
Top speed: 216 mph

Just read one of your previous comments. Although I'd be in to see a head to head….I don't think that will ever happen as these cars are not really in the same segment.

Agree with your assessment. Plus, as I mentioned earlier, a power restricted version of the street going GT won Le Mans. That is really all we need to know. If anyone believes a ZL1 1LE could do that then I have some ocean front property in AZ for sale. ;-) I have a Z/28 so a I am not a GT fanboy, although I respect what Ford has accomplished. Twice they've taken a GT to Le Mans and twice they've won. American engineering... we should all be proud.

It's a lot easier to flog around a 60k car on payments, versus a low production 450k car that you have to fight to own. I think the Ford GT owner shows here that you can run 7/10's and still keep ahead of a guy going balls deep in a nice Camaro.

Let's be real, there is no comparison here.

And - the GT also had the weight added from a passenger. What a beast.

ZL1 vs Ford GT

So if you're thinking of getting a track car and want to save about $360k? Maybe you should consider getting a ZL1 instead of a Ford GT. In this video, the ZL1 hangs real tough with the much pricier GT. The GT does look like it could have walked away on a couple occasions, but man, the ZL1 was hanging tight.

Couldn't help but notice the Viper getting out of the way.

If I was in a position to afford a Ford GT, I don't think I'd cross shop it with any model Camaro.

Yes and it's pretty clear that either the drive of the Ford GT isn't pushing it hard or doesn't have much experience on track. I'd wait for actual lap times from the Ford GT before making claims like this.

I'm sure you feel much better now that you've ignored all the facts to suit your narrative.

The GT driver is clearly not pushing hard at all. The zl1 is cathcing up in corners (which it should not be) and the GT is pulling away on the straights.
