I considered it but I just don't have the time. I need to travel down to north carolina on saturday. I'll be lucky to install the tail lights and stuff before I go.

I will be interested to see pictures of that. I ordered the third brakelight since it was going to become expensive, but I haven't forked over the dough for the smoked tails yet. I also haven't worked out yet what I want to do with the front bowtie. Replace it (seems expensive for what you get), plasti-dip it, or something.

Just pulled out of Pocatello, Idaho! The train has made reasonably good time in the last 24 hours, around 550 miles or so by my reckoning. There are about 700 miles left, more or less, so if they manage to keep up this pace it might arrive in Portland as soon as tomorrow .

And when it does.... get on your salesman to get it out of the distribution center ASAP! I have the illuminated dark front bowtie. Not sure how I will like it but will find out soon. Sold my car last night just waiting on the cash. Then I'll go pick up. Clear bra & window tint scheduled for saturday.

My salesman is Becky .

I could not get it this weekend even if it were magically available by then. I need paperwork from Becky before I can get the check cut, and she needs info from the local dealer which is not being very responsive. Since I have to get that all done and mailed to Michigan, it's going to be sometime next week at the absolute earliest.

Great! What level tint are you going with? Here the legal limit is 35. I usually go 30 anyway. Not sure I'm going to Clear Bra this car, it's pretty expensive and I'm not sure the ROI is there. I've done it in the past but not on my most recent car.

I was quoted 480 for clear bra on front bumper, mirrors, and a strip for rear 1/4 panels. Tint I am not sure yet, I will be getting the heat reduction but Im between 20-35%. Can't decide yet. I was shocked because my brother paid 1,100 for his clear-bra.

Last time I bothered to do it, I paid about $1200 for clear bra and tint together. That was front bumper and about the first 18 inches of hood, and the mirrors. And almost 10 years ago. The gamble I'm taking now is that it will cost less than that to fix the rock dings in a few years. Though I will probably put some on the rear quarters but I might just do it myself since that's a pretty easy spot.

Yeah only hard part is the front bumper. I've found good paint repair to be costly so I try to avoid it. Like I said 480 for a clear bra is very cheap and that is why im pulling the trigger. The shop has 5/5 stars on every review site with over 400 reviews. I do a lot of highway driving too. I don't plan on going crazy with modifications for the car because quite simply I will be scraping by with payments and already have a true project car in the garage. So for me it's gonna be looks, air intake, catch can, and limited suspension work if I feel the need.

I feel much the same way. I used to spend way too much modifying cars, and in the end it didn't always make me happier with the car. Now I wait until something is irritating me before I decide to change it. The manufacturer puts a lot more engineering into these cars than most aftermarket shops, so I default to trusting their judgement until I have a specific case where I want it to be different.

I think OnStar finally took a nap. Right on schedule at 10 days. The vehicle status part went night-night after 5 days but I've been able to do GPS locating up until this morning at 8AM PDT. I've been trying off and on for the last hour to get a ping from it and just getting a system error. As of 8AM it is still at the rail yard in Nampa, Idaho. There is also another hump yard coming up, in Hermiston, which will undoubtedly add at least another day or so of wait time. I am still hoping that it will make it's way to the dealer in Portland by the end of this coming week.

I configured OnStar to try and ping it once an hour . So as soon as they start it to unload it from the train in Portland I should know within a half hour or so, and if I catch it moving south towards the dealer on a truck I may bail out of whatever I'm doing and immediately jump in my car to meet it there .

OMG you've got a mission plan and everything hahah!! I'm picking up the car tomorrow right when the dealership opens at 9am. It's nuts I've been going crazy having to wait. Finally sold the Audi today so I am happy. First time I haven't had a car since sophomore year high school. Feels WEIRD.

Congrats on selling the Audi . I'm with you, it's unnatural to look at where your car is supposed to be parked and realize that ... you don't own a car .

I totally missed your "WHAT?" comment on the previous page. Sorry!

What I've heard anecdotally is that the instructions for installing those little side pieces is that they use 3M tape and a very strong adhesive similar to what is used for the windshield. Strong enough that it might damage the paint on removal. I've also heard that some dealers skip the adhesive and just use the tape. When you said they were going to wet sand before install it made me wonder...

As long as the pieces are attached perfectly aligned and spaced, then I guess it doesn't matter if they use the strong adhesive, but I've seen enough pictures of poorly installed pieces that I worry. Because that's what I do at this stage, worry. I haven't decided whether or not to ask the local dealer to skip prep or not. It's a lot of work to do myself, and if they have a decent prep guy it will be nice to get a perfectly clean ready-to-drive car rather than something to spend a weekend working on. On the other hand, I have a bottle of Iron-X already and I was planning to clay bar it anyway to remove any rail dust. Decisions, decisions...

Yeah maybe I have an undiagnosed case of OCD . I'll get whiplash from the rebound once I have it -- I will just drive it and enjoy it and the obsession will be gone. I'll still visit these forums, though maybe not 10 times a day...
