I drive about 80% highway and since I work 6:30-3:00 I'm never in rush hour. So I've been getting 28-30 mpg. When I hit the freeway at 70 in 6th gear I hit the cruise and the motor is barely turning.

It all really depends on your mix of driving.

if you didn't buy this car for the fuel mileage why didn't you buy a 69 Camaro 396 getting 9mpg. These aren't the old gas guzzlers. They get great gas mileage. i get mid 20s but its alot of speed up slow down if your not going up hill you're going down

Surprised I had to scroll down to find this... but yeah, don't know, don't care. The gas I put in gives me smiles for miles, and whatever the numbers are, that's fine with me!

My SS gets around 22-25 mpg average. I've gotten ~30 before driving from Atlanta, GA to Houston, TX.

If I'm out doing spirited driving it goes down significantly.

These cars are way more efficient than their yesteryear counterparts.
I had a 72 Nova back in college and it got maybe 8-10 MPG on a good day and it was nowhere near as quick as these new cars are.

I never understand why people try to chastise someone over the MPG question. To people that DD these, this is a real concern to many of them.

It was to me when I got my first Camaro in 2012. Had a 90 mile round trip every day for work. It got old really quick having to pay ~$120 a week in gas just to get to work back when premium was over 4 bucks a gallon.

That's why I now have a crappy beater DD that gets 35 MPG. Also I don't have a 90 mile round trip anymore for work.

I thought the original poster was asking for fuel economy numbers for those who own a 6 speed SS?

Gas mileage drops huge if doing short trips in city...mileage is great for longer trips on highway. I also noticed if you are doing longer trips, but in the city, the mileage is sorta in between.

I am not sure if its based on the computers calculation or if it's actual fuel consumed, but just starting the car for a cold start and driving a mile or so running errands, and doing another start to get back home will eat up mileage like nothing else.

If I drove hard at every stop sign, but drove for a few hours non-stop, the mileage I get isn't that bad. It's the short drives that kill it. Same with any other vehicle though I suppose.

Yeah that's pretty much the summary of fuel economy of any car. Hybrids get better city than highway due to regenerative braking but that's about it.

A cold engine uses much more fuel, so if you're doing short drives on a cold engine frequently that is the state at which your car will consume the absolute most fuel.

Oh, and by the way my best fuel efficiency is 16mpg, and I average around 9mpg in my SS 1LE.

if every mpg post you had seen was stating 50 mpg out of the same car and you found yours was only getting 9 mpg, whether or not you bought it for fuel efficiency, you would probably be curious as to whats going on with your car too. That said this was not as extreme as the example above but i did see many post that were much higher than what i've noticed out of mine so I was just curious if this was the norm. I see there is a variety of numbers out there people are seeing so i guess its just my lead foot. Worth all the smiles.

My 2SS 6MT averages about 22. I live out in the country, so not a lot of freeway causing miles.

I see several references to the first gen muscle cars of the late 60's very early 70's. My first real muscle car was a '69 Mustang fastback with the 428 Cobra Jet engine and a 4.11 differential. I got about 7 MPG in that on average. Although that was a monster of a car back in it's day, my Gen6 2SS would simply walk away from that one. And that car couldn't corner worth a crap, all front end heavy, dated brake technology, and the old polyester bias tires before radials became standard. Fun memories, and wish I kept it for investment purposes, but that car just poured gas through that Holley 780.

I average 20.5 on a 46 mile round trip that is mixed city/freeway driving on a route that's 90% freeway with some stop and go. There are also a couple 1000+foot elevation drops and gains along the route.

I suspect that I'd be closer to 24 if it was all flat.

I am getting between 6-13 with mine. ZL1 1LE. I have a very heavy foot though and am always in track and sport mode with the rpm's 3 or above.
