Big issue need help (cooling related)

I was in a parking lot waiting for somebody with my car idling when i realized the ac was blowing hot humid air all of a sudden. I look up and the cars temperature was around 230, I turned on the heater immediately and drove a bit for it to cool down. This was on a fifty degree night by the way. So a couple things i realized is the ac blows cold when driving, kinda smells musty, and after five minutes of idling the ac will blow hot and coolant temp will start to rise. Upon further inspection, I figured out my cooling fan has stopped working, doesn't turn on when the ac is on or anything. I know no other components are faulty as the car stays at operating temperature unless stopped with the ac on. The worst part is I think the cooling fan is under bumper to bumper and my car is at 41,000 miles which is out of warranty. My questions are, what else should I check? I looked for a fuse in the fuse box in the hood but only found a relay, should I go into the dealer or is it not worth the $170 inspection.

Are the fans Bad? Do they work at all? Temp sender turns them on, you can jumper and test fan motors. Gotta move air over the condenser/rad to cool.
Sounds like fans are not running. Go after the fans.

it sounds like your fans are not working. The fans should be on whenever the A/C is on to move air over the condenser. You did the right things by getting the car moving and putting the heater on.
I would guess your fan control module is bad or has a bad connection.
I cannot tell where the control module is located:

here is some info. The lamp wiring harness connects to the fan module (note this references the 4 and 6 cylinder engines):

I had the thermostat for my radiator fan break on my old '03 Cobra. Basically, fan was not getting a reading so wouldn't turn on. There was no real reason why it broke either. Cheap fix. Good luck.

Inoperative cooling fan is the issue.

May need fan, may need relay, may need controller.

Apply 12v directly to fan to test motor

Or take to a technician

Seems to me they would apply the $170 diagnostic charge to the repair. Or shop around.

I would at least call the dealer first and confirm that the fan isn't under the powertrain warranty. A call is free

There may be a service advisory on this. I remember some early run models had a cooling fan relay issue. But you've had your car 41,000 miles. I would think it would have shown up by now.

What did you come up with on this? I'm having the same problem. I noticed the AC blowing warm first. I already checked the fuse but I didn't have to time to find a relay.

This is a very easy test, once the car is warmed up if you turn on the AC the fans should come on right then. If the fans dont come on with the AC running then the fans or fan controller is bad.

On GM vehicles the fans are commanded as soon as the AC is turned on, otherwise the fans dont come on with engine coolant temps til around 195° degrees or so, even then it is they are PWM (pulse width modulated) and only come on at a percentage of their full operating speed. That fan speed ramps up as coolant temps rise, or in the case of the AC being used they are commanded around 100% at that time.

yes I know this. I've already diagnosed that the fan is not running.

Hey, I'm sure you have already gotten this resolved but I had this happen to me yesterday and I brought it to my dealership and they said it was the radiator motor that was fried, unfortunately that part is on backorder and I wont have my car back for at least another 2 weeks.

Isn't this car under warranty?
