You pay what you get. A lot of R&D goes into these parts now and vehicles are much, much more advanced compared to even the last year of the last gen. Some might be cheap but force you to modify them to fit. Some don't give any power at all minus removing 2 or all 4 cats... Another thing, no one is forcing you to spend money. Thus, you don't have to if you don't like how much you have to spend to play ball.

No kidding. Problems with NPP is that, 1: 2 cats on the xpipe... (Sorry EPA, I didn't buy a v8 to hear louder noises from a v4. 4 cats will not be on the car. Don't like it? Go ban construction diesel vehicles who produces worst smog in a week than I will an entire lifetime of a vehicle) 2: Entire catback is one piece... So getting an xpipe, can't just replace it with 4 bolts but gotta cut the damn exhaust... And then again, the ECU and o2 sensors are so sensitive, you end up getting a p0420. So going back to stock if you've gotten ridden of your xpipe is 1400 bucks without labor because you can only buy the entire cat back, including the muffler and all. Plus if you need new actuators or hangers etc, 2k. Just to replace an xpipe.

Everything I hear about those guys is they take months to ship, and other complaints lol. Regardless, doubt I'd want to to pay taxes to cross the border

These insane prices is probably the major reason you don't see many perf parts like you do in the LS market. There are hardly any camshaft or cylinder heads to choose from. The "builds" today consist of a blower, wheels, and a splitter and wing and done. For LS cars that was a drunk weekend. Builds went on for weeks and months and were pages long with great technical discussion. As much as I love this car, what made me fall in love with GM products over 10 years ago is no longer there. I'm most likely going to go back and play with LS stuff again.

Now you got the Borla ATAK selling for $2200 USD (or $2750 CAD...)....Are you kidding me? For something that is literally just SOUND?

I did Headers and High flow cats for less than that.

Sorry, that's the end of my rant.

Exactly. The engineers did a great job tuning the sound on the NPP; why would you try to improve on that LUSTY tone? For me the best part is the loudness backs off at cruise and low throttle. LOVE the NPP.

half is the small market and this will be exasperated if they wont be able to use the same exhaust for the entire generation. Low volume leads to higher prices.

The other half is just exploiting the market that does exist to extract the most money out of the fewer sales you get. This is possible because there's less competition, the car is in a moderately high price bracket and new cars == owners have money.

When a pair of mufflers cost around 900 bucks, there's no amount of R&D that makes an otherwise generic muffler that can be used in all kinds of other applications worth that. It's not like they all have carefully measured j-pipes to cancel out certain frequencies. I mean look at magnaflow, it's two mufflers and tips for 800+. haha ok.
That's the half that's just trying to cash in.

NPP here as well, not really enough volume for me. And I did the sound tube mod, pulled the fuse and have the back seat down as well lol. I may do the MBRP for $600 or the Stainless Works axleback for $900 that retains NPP

I know the Borla is a solid choice both in quality and tone but , just was not really wanting to drop that kind of money on a axle back .. I ended up going with the Flowmaster 817746 for NPP and must say very happy with my purchase from RDP at a great price has No drone and a nice rumble to now...

Stainless steel costs more and is probably a bit more difficult to fabricate, there's less available room under cars these days to run it in, so the routing has to more precise (yeah, I know, sometimes it still isn't precise enough), there's more R&D involved if they're chasing a particular sound, peoples' pay rates have gone up, advertising to be paid for, stockholders to be kept happy, etc., etc.

But I flat-out cannot imagine spending $2 grand on an exhaust system, that's just crazy money. To me, even $300 that only buys a bargain-basement axle-back or about double that for an economy cat-back are still excessive amounts of money just for sound and a little visible chrome under the rear bumper. I've pieced together from straights, elbows, and universal-fit mufflers a decent-sounding X-type cat-back system for less than the cost of one Borla ATAK muffler (currently $220 at Summit).

+1 for exhaust options being WAY overpriced for mass produced off the shelf units.
