New zl1 1le is home

What a nice car.
2 Hour drive home from dealer on highway with some heavy rain the last 20 minutes.
Drove home in track and sport mode with wheel traction control not engaged.
It's fast but not as much torque as I expected. Nice exhaust tone.
My 550 Ferrari is 5.5 liter v12 normal aspirated and has much more torque than camaro which I thought they would be the same. Camaro makes more noise but slightly slower is my feeling.
Handles and steering very solid and responsive.
Hud display is very cool along with the dash layout with temp and heat guages.
Slides around a little in heave rain.

Stick shift is a little sloppy when shifting over from 2/3 gate or 4/5 gate and especially going down to lower gate. Might be me though.

I am comparing to my 2000 Ferrari 550 which is a gated stick with a metal to metal feel very stiff and gate guides you.
Camaro you kind of have to feel for it. Feels a little sloppy and rubbery.
Downshifting rev matching works great on car.
All in all it is a very nice car and worth the cost.

Wait a minute! Your 550 ferrari with 478hp and 419 ft lbs feels stronger than 650 hp and 650 ft lbs? Surely the 550 isnt stock. The camaro is a bit deceiving as it is pretty quiet and tame inside, and feel or not im pretty sure it would walk the 550. The camaro SS may be an equal battle though.

I believe the horsepower to weight differential between the two and SOP feel has him thinking this way. In reality, not so

I have yet to see one in the wild, I drive 80 miles round trip 3 days a week but have not yet come across a Gen6 camaro to run with my GT mustang. I guess they are "pure" track cars only? I like the head to head comparison but in the wild, or on the street I've not seen one perform. I am enjoying the culture of hot rods but can't find any chevy's on the street on the Texas coastal bend.

Drive down to Corpus or up here to Houston and you'll see plenty.

Thanks guys.
Just thought I would share the comparison as I was a little perplexed.
The 550 i have is stock except for a tube exhaust. It pins you back in the chair much better than the camaro in any gear.
I looked at Nurburbring times and the camaro has lap times of around 7:16 while the 550 has times of 8:07 so I guess it is deceiving. The camaro would smoke it on the track based on times.
Its a very integrated car and smooth in general. The ride is really not that bad at all in sport or track. All in all a great car for the money and maintenance is going to be easy I think.
My only plans for now are to change the brake lines to stainless steel braided with fittings as some camaro owners I know that track them complain of sponginess with the hem lines.
I already have my magnetic drain plug and will be switching to Pennzoil ultra platinum 5/30 for oil and Motul ref 660 for brake fluid when I change the lines.
Not sure what I am going to do about brake pads when I wear these out. Am thinking of trying Ferodo which have forked good on other cars for me. I hear the Hawk take time to warm up and squeal more.
Planning on tracking it for first time at Sebring in November after break in completed.
American muscle is coming on strong now compared to the 60's.
Thanks

The LT4 will get much stronger as you accumulate miles..... it will not reach its full potential until about 10K miles.......

It also puts the power to the ground so well it is deceiving..... it does not have an erratic feel like some other cars.....

This right here. Drove mine home from Austin TX to Destin Fl. I think the car feels most comfortable running right at 100 mph lol

Buddy just picked up his ZL1 1LE and at first he thought it felt a little slow but compared to his Hellcat, but then he figured out the throttle is very linear in the ZL1 whereas it's more programmed to be twitchy in the HC. Plus ZL1 is very smooth in power delivery, so it doesn't feel as fast as it is.

I agree with everything you guys are saying.
It is very smooth and power very linear and evenly distributed throughout the power band.
I could not resist as I was on a large highway with not much traffic so i had several stretched where I ran it up to 6K in several gears. It goes from 80 to 130 in the blink of an eye in like 4th gear.
Had trouble down shifting from 5th to 4th numerous times as I could not find it. I had to feel for it where my other car has gates to guide you.
The rev matching is really nice. It is just like my ducati motorcycle. No need to blip the throttle when letting out the clutch in the car.
I think when tracking there is no need to heel and toe anymore with rev matching.
You guys with paddle shifters are used to this I think.
This car is going to be a riot to play with and will get faster. Thats great.
I was using a lot of throttle in 2,3,4th gear and I think had no wheel spin when accelerating with traction control de activated.
